On October 14, 2005, Apple announced that Fadell would replace the retiring Jon Rubinstein as Senior Vice President of the iPod Engineering group on March 31, 2006.
Fadell is an alumnus of Grosse Pointe South High School in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.

Here's a piece [1] in iDip [2] that sources this piece by John Markoff in the New York Times [3] from about a year ago, that touches on the subject of Tony Fadell [4], who gets some credit [5] as "father" of the iPod.
I've written about Tony and the iPod [8], and have talked with him about the iPod a number of times.
Never got the impression that he didn't play a leading role, although he was always careful to spread the credit, too.
