Leung is one of the few Hong Kong actors to have won an international acting prize (best actor at Cannes for Wong Kar-wai's In the Mood for Love), and it's an exceptional year when he doesn't win something at the national film awards.
Leung was given the freedom to make changes to the character and the script; he changed several scenes, dispensing with a cliched "Let's drop our guns and duke it out" ending in favour of something more simple and elegiac.

Actor Tony Leung Chiu-Wai has been in hot water this week after he expressed support for the 1989 Tiananmen Square crackdown in an interview for the latest edition of "B International" -- an English-language magazine.
Leung enraged the human rights and pro-democracy camps by saying that it was right for the Mainland government to end pro-democracy protests with the June 4 crackdown.
Denying allegations that he made the statement to try to boost his image in the Mainland, Leung suggested to reporters that he was misquoted and that his statement was taken out of context.

Since Tony Leung went back to China I have resumed my training and it seems to me that he either did not know the full mantis system, or he refused to teach it.
Having said this, Tony Leungs kung fu knowledge and skill is of the utmost quality, with out a doubt one of the best in the country, and I owe him a debt for setting me on my kung fu path.
