Tony Orlando (born April 3, 1944) is an American singer best known for his time with the group Dawn in the early 1970s.
Born Michael Anthony Orlando Cassavitis, to a Greek father and a Puerto Rican mother, he was raised in New York City's notorious "Hell's Kitchen" in Manhattan.
Joining Tony were Telma Hopkins and Joyce Vincent Wilson, and the trio scored a string of #1 hits with "Tie A Yellow Ribbon 'Round The Ole Oak Tree," "Knock Three Times," and "Candida".

In early 1970, Orlando received a call from Bell Records producer Hank Medress requesting that he lay down a lead vocal over a demo recorded by a Detroit-based act called Dawn.
Orlando quickly agreed to cut another record with Dawn, nonetheless adamantly insisting on keeping his day job; titled "Knock Three Times," the single topped the charts in early 1971, and finally he returned to music full-time, signing with Bell and going on tour with Hopkins and Vincent under the banner of Dawn, Featuring Tony Orlando.
Released in 1973, "Tie a Yellow Ribbon" became Orlando's biggest hit yet, and was named the top-selling single of the year.

The former, a superb Gerry Goffin/Carole King composition, was later successfully covered by Billy Fury, but Orlando enjoyed an emphatic UK hit when the latter reached number 5.
Subsequent releases, including "Happy Times" (1961) and "Chills" (1962) were less impressive and Orlando began forging a backroom career in the music business, eventually rising to general manager of Columbia Records' April/Blackwood publishing division.
