Reali felt that the difference in argument quality between Bill and Woody was so lopsided toward Woody that he punished Bill by giving Woody 5 points and the win while giving Bill -3 points and hitting his Mute button several times, despite the fact that there were two more topics left.
Around the time Reali took over the show, the host was allowed to give points at his own discretion (Reali may give a single point for a weak argument, or many points for a particularly strong case backed by statistical information), and the penalty for a mute was reduced to a single point.

Tony sounds like he is reading cue cards, which he most certainly is cause there is no way he can know some of these old pop culture and sports references he comes up with.

Tony Reali was really bad to start with, but you can slowly see him filling into the role.
Tony is perfect in the role of ‘Stat Boy’ on PTI, but Around the Horn has developed expectations of the host, including mediation of discussions when they mushroom out of control, etc. ESPN would be much more well suited to emphasize to Tony what has led so many of us to enjoy the show …ie.

The scoring is done totally at the whim of Reali, and it gets to be painfully obvious when he wants to keep someone out of a round or get someone in (usually at Mariotti's expense).
Paige is kept around because Reali likes him, he's moderately entertaining, and if he hasn't met his quota of "too far in the forest to see the trees" and "the producers have come up with a bad question."
Even without Paige and Reali, though, ATH can never be as good as PTI or I, Max, the latter of which is rapidly becoming the best sports show on television.
