A memorial service for Roper, 35, was held at his former high school in the rural Missouri town where he grew up and got his first driving lessons through the winding Ozarks hills.
"Tony was a man who never forgot where he came from; his heart was always in the Ozarks," said the Rev. Don Powell, who conducted the service held in the Fair Grove High School gymnasium.

Tony’s father, Dean, began his career some 40 years ago and my first memory of him is when he raced in some old I.M.C.A. “big car” events in the Midwest.

Born in Glasgow, Roper is best known as Jamesie Cotter in Rab C. Nesbitt (1990) alongside Gregor Fisher (b.1953).
He was a friend of Rikki Fulton (1924 - 2004) and appeared in various roles in Scotch and Wry, for which he also wrote sketches.
