Anthony Sheridan McGinnity was born in Norwich, England on May 21, 1940; he formed his first band, the Saints, at the age of 15 before relocating to London a few years later.

Years later Sheridan converted to the Sannyasin religion, rechristening himself Swami Probhu Sharan and settling in Germany -- a footnote in rock history, to be sure, but an important and enduring one.

During their stretches in Hamburg, they befriended fellow Liverpudlian Tony Sheridan, a marginally successful English rock and roller who built his career on doing a passable Elvis impersonation.
Sheridan was renowned enough in Germany to get a chance to record with orchestra leader/music industry impresario Bert Kaempfert (of "Wonderland by Night" and "Strangers in the Night" fame), sessions for which he on occasion recruited the Beatles to back him up.
While Sheridan's songs play, the camera pans around a few dozen fl and white still photos of the Beatles and Sheridan in Hamburg -- most of which are very familiar from other Beatles documentaries (the fresh ones are of just Sheridan) -- with some occasional cheesy editing cuts made to match the music.

You know--the people at Polydor who've been anxiously hawking those Tony Sheridan sessions from way back in 1961, the ones where he was backed by a variety of musicians, several of which, it just so happened, would soon go on to become the focus of a world-wide mania.
Oh sure, the official title is "THE BEATLES with tony sheridan", but all my confused brain was really assimilating on that nicely designed sepia-tinted cover was the large Star Club marquee logo shouting out at me! Maybe this was some old film, newly discovered, or something, I foolishly speculated.
Even Sheridan, clearly enjoying his moment in the sun here, assiduously dissecting each and every track on his long-ago album as if it were the monumental "Sgt. Pepper" itself, comes across as a likably amiable bloke.

I was wondering the same thing when I saw it in the ads this morning.
I figure there is probably very little of the Beatles in it, I am anxious to know also if anyone has more info.
For some reason this period has always been one of my favorites, it's definitely one of my favorite episodes on the Anthology DVDs.
