Tony Wakeford - Biocrawler   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
Anthony Charles "Tony" Wakeford is an English Pagan folk and neoclassical musician who primarily records under the name Sol Invictus.
Wakeford has long been influential in the neo-folk/dark-folk scenes that continue to flourish throughout Europe under numerous appellations, including "Pagan folk", "apocalyptic folk", "folk noir", "Gothic folk", etc. All of these labels have been used to describe the folk aspect of Wakeford's oeuvre with Sol Invictus.
Wakeford was the bassist for the English political punk band Crisis from 1977 until the band's termination in 1980.

 CD Baby: TONY WAKEFORD: Paris
Tony Wakeford's Paris features an accoustic concert of Sol Invictus songs recorded at the Theatre Dubois in November 1994.
Accompanied by Nathalie Van Keymeulen and Céline Marleix-Bardeau, the unplugged Wakeford is not entirely solo, but this is a minimalist performance relying on the inherent strength of Tony's songs and his appeal as a 'singer-songwriter' (although that appelation usually conjures up a rather different image).
Tony's dark-side vision of humanity and inhumanity is a very singular one, and he has maintained its purity by remaining the only permanent member of Sol, bringing in combinations of other musicians as required for each album or performance.

Tony Wakeford/Andrew Liles: The Wardrobe: A Sandwich Short - Reviewed at Strange Fortune
One of my favorite albums of '05 was the first Tony Wakeford & Andrew Liles collaboration as The Wardrobe titled _Cups in Cupboard_, which I felt to be an evocative blend of folk-noir acoustics and strange electronic accompaniment.
Despite the lighthearted side to the proceedings there's always been much beauty to be found in Wakeford's experimental efforts, and this album begins with a piano led piece that continues in the vein of the dark romantic, filmic qualities of _Cups_.
Through manipulation, their voices and that of Tony Wakeford (he gets to sing!) are warped into something dreadful and beautiful.

: IKONEN : Interview Tony Wakeford Sol Invictus
ON (the world and everything in it) heraus (heute: SOL).
