Toodyay is a small country town located in the Avon Valley, 85 km north-east of Perth.

 Toodyay Ride
The motorised division met us on the outskirts of Toodyay, on their trikes and bikes, with news that "there's only 10km to go", funnily enough this wasn't taken with the humour it was given.
After Toodyay there was a lot of little hills building up to the experience that someone labeled '9-mile hill' though it was hard to see where this hill started or ended, just that by about 25km from Toodyay we seemed to be at the top of something and could see for miles and mostly down.
Toodyay Rd goes down the Scarp via Redhill and though steep and fast it was unfortunately full of traffic, lots of trucks, so we had to take it slow down the hill.

After his death in Toodyay (then called Newcastle) the pouch containing the letters, along with his few other belongings, was taken to the local police station.
At some point, the pouch must have fallen down behind a cabinet or other piece of furniture in the police station, where it was found by workers in 1931 when the building was being demolished.
Reading between the lines of some edited selections from the 'Toodyay Letters', as they are known from the Western Australian town where William Sykes spent a good part of his sentence, reveal a touching tale of hardship, hope and struggle.

This year the cadets found 16 macroinvertebrate taxa, which included, dragonfly larvae, damselfly larvae, water boatmen, crawling water beetles, mosquito pupae, flfly larvae, cranefly larvae, non-biting midge larvae, freshwater shrimp, water flea, amphipods, fairy shrimp, isopods, water mites, leeches and flatworms.
2003 is the first year that the Toodyay Friends of the River have undertaken sampling as part of the Macroinvertebrate Snapshot.
Sampling took place in Duidgee Park, Toodyay and observations showed there was an abundance of green and brown algae in the river.
