ILVES: If I might add, if we look back, say 15 years ago, it was clear at that point there was a distinction, because we were dealing with a concrete threat from Communist dictatorships.
ILVES: Well, I don't know what the game is, but certainly I would say from an Estonian point of view we are wholeheartedly and strongly in favor of including Russia in discussions between NATO and Russia.

A congress of Estonian Moderates elected Foreign Minister Toomas Hendrik Ilves head of the party on 19 May with a vote of 299 to 14.
Commenting on his election, Ilves said he wants to raise the level of political discussion in Estonia.
Talking about growing unemployment in Estonia, Ilves suggested reconsidering the abolition of corporate income tax because dropping it has not helped to increase jobs, but acknowledged that such a tax reform could not happen immediately.

The parliament by a vote of 39 to 32 decided on 22 October not to discuss this week the amendments to the laws on parliament and local elections that would abolish the Estonian language requirements for candidates to the parliament and local governments, ETA reported.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Mart Laar asserted that the amendments cannot be supported in their current form and must modified to ensure that they cannot lead to a change in the working language of the parliament.
