It is a shame that Jackson’s name does not surface as much as it should; even the most astute hockey fans and historians often leave the Hall-of-Fame left wing out of conversations regarding the early stars of the National Hockey League.
Jackson led his Marlboros to a Memorial Cup victory in the 1928-29 campaign while scoring 15 goals and 25 points in 13 postseason tilts.
Jackson made his NHL debut with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1929-30 season, appearing in 31 contests and scoring 18 points with 12 by way of the goal.

Shortly thereafter, Smythe was relieved of his duties with the Rangers and promptly proceeded to Toronto and purchased the Toronto St. Patricks and renamed them the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Primeau led the league in assists in 1930-31 with 32, and later repeated the feat in 1931-32 and 1933-34 with 37 and 32 respectively.
By 1938-39 Joe was back in hockey as coach of the Toronto Marlboro's Senior team, and also coached the Toronto RCAF Hurricanes in 1942-43.

Maple Leaf Gardens is an indoor arena in Toronto, Ontario, on the northwest corner of Carlton Street and Church Street.
It was also home to the Toronto Toros of the WHA from 1974-1976, the Toronto Marlboros of the OHL (junior hockey), and the Toronto Huskies in their single season in the NBA.
The Toronto Raptors played a handful of games at the arena each from 1995-1999 (mostly when SkyDome was unavailable), and the Buffalo Braves played a few home games each year at the arena as well.

After his playing days were over, George spent time with both Toronto and the Quebec Nordiques, and even made a brief comeback as the Toronto coach in the 1988-89 season, and now serves as a scout for the Toronto organization.

Shortly after the turn of the twentieth century, a group of Toronto sportsmen decided to form a new athletic club in the downtown core.
In 1954-55, the Marlboros captured their second Memorial Cup and they wouldn't have to wait long for their third as they became just the second team to capture back to back Memorial Cups with their victory in 1955-56.
When the Junior A Marlboros were dissolved in 1989, the Maple Leafs discontinued their direct involvement with the Marlboro minor system.

He played 4 seasons with the Toronto Marlboros and received a 2 game trial with the Leafs during the 1957-58 season.
The picture was published in all the Toronto newspapers and the resulting publicity forced the Leafs to give in to his contract demands and sign him.

 Legends of the Buffalo Sabres - Mike Byers
A Toronto native, Mike Byers played his junior hockey as a member of the hometown Toronto Marlboros of the Ontario Hockey Associtaion between 1963-64 and 1966-67.
Byers scored 25 goals for the Marlboros in 1966-67, second on the team behind only Meehan, as the Marlboros went on to win the 1967 Memorial Cup Championship.
Former Marlboros teammate Meehan was also a part of the trade that sent Byers to Philadelphia.

Towards the end of a highly successful 1949-50 season with the Marlboros Sr squad with 115 points he would be called up by the Toronto Maple Leafs for the first time for 2 games but he would return to the Marlboros Sl-Cup squad to finish the season.
After his retirement from the NHL, Chief Armstrong would coach the Toronto Marlboros to Memorial Cups in the 1972/73 and 1964/75 seasons.

Next year the St. John's Maple Leafs of the AHL will be moving to the Ricoh Coliseum (or maybe the ACC if there's no NHL?) as the 'Toronto Marlboros'.
If you don't know the history behind the name, I suggest you look it up, but the Marlies were the Leafs' junior development team until 1989 when the Junior A's dissolved.
They were named the Marlboros in 1903 after "the Duke of Marlborough", the uncle of Winston Churchill.
