The Cordillera del Paine is a small but spectacular mountain group in Chilean Patagonia.
The Central Tower of Paine (about 2,460 m or 8,100 feet) was first climbed in 1963 by Chris Bonington and Don Whillans, and the North Tower of Paine (about 2,260 m) was first climbed by Guido Monzino.
The group is included within the Torres del Paine National Park, which was declared a Biosphere Reserve by the UNESCO in 1978.

 tips for Visiting Torres del Paine
Now, "Torrents del Paine" and "Torres del Pain" were two phrases oft-mentioned in the refugios' comments books.
As a photographer on a very limited budget my biggest challenge in TDP was figuring out where to stay and how to see the park without actually carrying all my luggage on the "W".
Louie Escober's trip report and recs for TDP – I've linked to his Patagonia trip report as well but his page on Torres del Paine is very helpful and full of the kind of details anyone planning to hike the "W" would want to know.

We reach a point a few kilometres from the Hosteria at which we have to disembark and transfer ourselves to smaller vehicles in order to cross a wobbly bridge (British, we are told) where we have to breath in (fold in the wing mirrors) in order to cross over the cold rushing waters below us.
The Paine Massif, 22Km long by 14 Km wide, is actually one very large mountain that towers to almost 3000 metres.
