There are, of course, ends of the tortion bars 38 extending upwardly on both sides of the frame and also a pair of studs 39 disposed on opposite sides of the frame.
The tortion bars 38 are fixed at their bottom ends in the tortion bar retainers 40 which are suitably secured to the fixed frame 10.
The force at the point of contact between the latch bar 16 and the pin 74 is quite small and is in the ratio of the distance x to the distance y times the force imposed by the latch 50 on the latch bar.

Torsion beam suspension - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
One end of a long metal bar is attached firmly to the vehicle chassis; the opposite end terminates in a lever, mounted perpendicular to the bar, that is attached to the axle of the suspension arm or wishbone.
Vertical motion of the wheel causes the bar to rotate along its axis and is resisted by the bar's torsion resistance.
Torsion Bar Suspensions are currently used on trucks and SUV's from Ford, GM and Dodge.

Mopar G machine series – Torsion bar Tango
Torsion bar suspensions have been used in everything from sprint cars to tanks over the years, but their use under Chrysler passenger cars during the 1960’s and 1970’s is what interests us g-machine guys.
A torsion bar is one of the simplest shapes for a spring.
The bar is subjected to a twisting motion by the car’s suspension, and resistance of the bar to that twisting force is what supports the weight of the vehicle.

The smaller bars are oriented to combined street/autox/track use while the big bars would most likely be a harsh ride on real-world streets but provide great handling on the track.
The front bars are mounted longitudinally inside the a-arm and are removed from the rear.
If the spring plate is stuck, either use a Visegrip locking pliers to hold torsion bar or you may need to tap the spring plate with a hammer to free itself from the torsion bar splines.

 Toyota Tech: Upgrading Torsion Bars
In the case of the SAW 25mm bars, this is expressed as: (new bar diameter: 25 to the fourth = 390625) divided by (old bar diameter: 22 to the fourth = 234256), which equates to a 66% increase in spring rate.
According to Burroughs, the "torsion bars are under high torsional stresses and these stresses are at a maximum at the surface of the minor diameter.
Prior to installing the new torsion bars, make sure you know which bar is to be installed on the driver side, and which one fits the passenger side: this will be indicated on one end of each bar.

 Torsion bar adjustment
The torsion bar adjuster bolts are located under the truck near the frame rails about 10" back from the transfer-case cross member.
The higher you lift by adjusting the bars the greater the angle in the CV and tulip joints on the front axle shafts especially on trucks equipped with ADD.
After adjusting the torsion bars you may be able to use 32 X 11.50 tires on stock 7" wheels with little or no rubbing.

The author of this article or nissanoffroad.net is in no way suggesting that you should adjust your torsion bars.
Height increases of approximately 2" can be attained by adjusting the torsion bars but only at the risk of increased wear on suspension and drive train components.
This will relieve most of the stress being placed on the torsion bars but it is also a good idea to lubricate the the bolts and nuts before turning them.

Penguin r/c - Roll Bars   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-19)
Roll bars are used for fine tuning the balance of grip created by the roll of the vehicle.
When the car rolls into a corner the bar has two effects the first effect is that the suspension gets a little harder on the outside of the vehicle due to the torsion affect of the bar.
Once the larger problem of tire lifting is solved then you use the roll bars on the front and rear to achieve the correct roll to provide the optimum pressure to the tires that are being used.

 Minutemod: Cranking the Torsion Bars
The torsion bar's job is to maintain downward pressure on the lower control arm.
The torsion bar is splined on one end, and fits into the lower control arm.
The height of the lower arm is controlled by an adjusting bolt, which pushes down on the anchor arm, and twists the torsion bar.

I unloaded the torsion bar first by marking the bolt's position with a shot of spray paint on one side then unscrewed the tension bolt.

An IFS system raises and owers the front suspension by using a Bar (Tortion Bar) to apply upward pressure on one arm of a pair of arms that are held in parallel (see picture on right).
By forcing the one arm upwards, the second arm also moves upwards, since again, they are both attached to the tortion bar..
This is done by turning the bolts at the rear end of both tortion bars.

The torsion bar is the rod that runs from the lower control arm back to the frame, the most lift you can safely get from that is 1 to 1.5 inchs.
I was thinking about the tortion bar lift up front just to level the truck out.
I have a 2000 with a 3 inch body lift on itand the 33" rubbed with the torsion bars in the stock location, the other thing is even if you get the tires on the truck by only turning up the bars dont hit any bumps, you will tear a fender off.

Idogaki explains this relative hysteresis when current is increasing in prior art devices as arising from "the friction between the motor shaft and bearing, the friction between the turns of the coil spring and so forth".

The tortion bar thereby acts against the rotational driving torque of the electric motor.

When I questioned a local shop about the installation of the strut bar (don't have one though) that it is a good idea to use nuts and bolts rather than using the threaded inserts that came with it.
Strut bars are more effective in Mk3 cars, as the strut tower isn't as solidly mounted to the firewall as it is in the Mk4.
So my advice would be to install the bar when you upgrade the suspension (to bad I have already upgraded mine).

As you slide in the bars, yes, all together, as you cannot do it one at a time, the problem is the get in a bind, when they try to past through the square hole, in the center of the upper and lower beams.
To solve the spreading of the bars, lubed up with some chassis grease, I use nylon ty wrops, the good ones, and tie wrap the plastic or the better nylon ones around all the bars, once I know they are in the correct position.
The ty-wrap will keep the bars together, so they fit into the square hole, but slide down the bars, staying out of the way and will have no negative effects on the bars or their lubrication later.

IFS Lifts   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-19)
After all these analyses assume that the bar is a perfectly rigid object, where as the torsion bar actually functions by way of its elastic response to stress and strain (as well as the static loading analysis mentioned by Jonathan).
If you took a HD bar, and put it in with the same lift, then it would only need to twist, say 20 degrees to hold up the truck, and then during bottoming it would still twist another 30 degrees, and therefor only have to twist a total of 50 degrees.
The main advantage to the HD bars, is that they don't have to twist as much to hold the truck up as the stock ones, and so they're under less stress.

The truxx lift is nothing more than keys that relocate the tortion bar which raises the truck...an alignment should be done after this also.
As far as hummer guy, it doesn't matter that you turned each side t- bar the same amount, you still messed with the front end geometry same as ANY lift so an alignment should have been done to prevent uneven tire wear.
a tortion bar is nothing more than a spring, turning it only adds more tension and raises the front end...there is absolutely NOTHING that can come from turning them....why do you think your hummer dealer will turn them for you if you ask?

If you pull the bars out and set height then put bard back in its next to impossible to damaged the bearings.
You hear a lot of people saying how easy it is to damage the bearings and that is because there having to use so much force to knock the arms of and on still with the bars in.

They will put undue stress on the tortion bars and will cause premature wearing of all your front end suspesion components.
If you do however decide to go that route make sure you get a new alignment and get new longer shocks because with the new keys installed it will cause the truck to "Top out" if you hit some hard dips or big holes and either rip the shock mounts out or destroy the shocks.
