In the 13th century, Torun began handling trade between Western Europe and Poland, a role it maintained despite continuing conflict with the Teutonic Knights, brought by Prince Conrad of Mazovia to Torun to defend Poland from invasions by its northern neighbors in 1231.
Torun is in north central Poland on the Vistula River, midway between Gdansk to the north and Warsaw to the south.

When they arrived back in Torun, the group attended a reception with Torun's President, they were interviewed by Polish national television, were presented with t-shirts and gingerbread (Toruń is famous for it's gingerbread or pierniki) and visited the local planetarium.

He completed all stages of University career: he received the title of doctor in 1948, after submitting a dissertation on the works of Żeromski, in 1962 he was promoted to associate professor and in 1973 he became a full professor.
In the period of 1956-58 he was the Dean of Humanistic Division; until 1968 he worked as the Director of Department of Polish XX Century Literature, then in 1973 he became the Director of Department of Polish Literature History and held the post till 1986.

While a student at the University of Kraków, he discovered several logical contradictions in the existing astronomical system taught at that time, which put the earth at the center of the universe.
Copernicus put an end to the belief that the earth was the center of the universe by properly placing the planet earth in orbit around the sun, revolving once around the sun each year while rotating on its axis once every twenty-four hours.
The citizens of Torun are proud of their native son and erected a monument in front of city hall to honor "Mikolaj Kopernik", the citizen of Torun who moved the earth and stopped the sun.

My father was then also a teacher of mathematics and logic and a docent at Lwów university (a year later he became a professor of philosophy at the University and stopped working at a secondary school), so I know how hard a teacher's work was at that time.

As a student of the Clandestine University, I, as well as my father, was also a frequent visitor at the Rubinowicz home at that time; but I never met Schauder there, and I do not remember if Rubinowicz told me about his visit.

Taste are organising a trip from Swindon to Torun 18th to 21st November 2005 to coincide with the annual Blues Festival and a Puppet Theatre Festival.

On the sands of Torun, the great exiles from Vilnius and Lviv planted the trees of knowledge and affection for wisdom.
One of the great exiles was Professor Tadeusz Czezowski, whose contribution to Poland and the Vilnius country, to Vilnius and Torun, and finally the Nicolaus Copernicus University are beyond all praise.
Most significantly, he rescued the main part of the Philosophical Seminar Library of the Stefan Batory University in Vilnius, which he supplemented with books saved from philosophy collections scattered in and around Torun.

In 1910-1912 he read French literature at the Neuchatel University in Switzerland and in 1916 he was invited to write a thesis qualify as assistant professor at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow.
When he moved to Warsaw University his qualification was extended to the whole area of philosophy and in 1936 he moved to Vilnius where he was a junior lecturer at the Philosophy Chair of the Stefan Batory University.
His rich didactic activity was broken by an administrative decision of the Communist authorities on the basis of which Henryk Elzenberg, along with a group of other professors, was barred from working with students because he was judged to be "an incorrect idealist".
