Tosashimizu is situated in the south-west area of Shikoku and faces the Pacific Ocean.
It is 25 km from the east side to the west side of Tosashimizu and 24 km from north to south.
Eighty-five percent of Tosashimizu consists of mountains and forests and the Ashizuri Cape area which is the center of the Ashizuri-UwaSea national Park and has an abundance of natural subtropical forests.

 Umi no bohyou (Grave markers at sea)
The shinyo squadron of Seifu Nikaido, author of this memoir, was stationed with 25 motorboats for two months at the small fishing village of Tosashimizu at the southern tip of Kochi Prefecture.
On May 25, when they graduated from shinyo training, they were assigned to Tosashimizu Base, still under construction, to be ready to sortie when enemy ships drew near the shore.
Nikaido visited Tosashimizu three times after the war's end (1973, 1991, and 1993), but he found the landscape had changed greatly since the war and only located one person who remembered the shinyo squadron stationed there.

The only significant lowland is a small alluvial plain at Kochi, a prefectural capital.

 Cape Ashizuri - Wikitravel
The cape is only a few kilometers away and easily reached on foot along a seaside walking oath.
From the east, there are occasional direct buses from Kochi (4h40m; ¥4000) and the nearest train station Nakamura (1h30m).
It is quite isolated so you really need your own transport to get there and it is best to do any shopping in Tosashimizu town before driving up.

Osaka Waterfront Development Co., the operator of Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, announced December 10 plans to build a base for the research, collection and farming of fish in Iburi Port, Tosashimizu, Kochi Prefecture.Construction will start in March, with opening slated for July 1997.
Before its opening until the present, Kaiyukan has collected fish in the port and used local fish preserves to research fish which are displayed for viewing purposes.
