Totem is working great so far on this new Linux system but it came with Gnome/Debian so I wanted to get some feedback from you guys.
Totem I can size the window to an exact size...watch a video (MPEG) and then close it and click another MPEG and it reopens in the same window size and position on my desktop.
I have a feeling this is probably less of the fault of totem as much as it's plain and simple the issue trying to use it with a proprietary codec (closed system means unknown secrets and issues can't ever truely be nipped in the bud).

Debian installed "Totem" as the base system media player and I like it however it constantly crashes and must restart or just shuts down.
I believe totem is a frontend for xine, so it's either a xine problem or totem problem.
I prefer beep media player or xmms for mp3s.

dvd: the vlc media player (open source, multi platform) also lets you play back dvds without having to change the region code (at least with some of the dvd drives this works).
It has a great lot of potential, but it doesn't have the slick interfaces of Windows Media Player and iTunes which is something I rather like.
update: vlc media player is now my default media player with everything except dvds I still prefer powerdvd and I was able to use vlc to transcode to mov container compatible with Ipod.

Hi drasor, Got bad news, After running 5 or 6 days, I suddenly lost my internet connection in Fedora 5, I was dual booting between XP and fedora, When I tried to get on the net with Fedora, it said it lost the server.
I was referring to the sites that have Windows Media Player and Quicktime frames in the site and don't offer separate downloads that I could never get working.
Totem has perfect DVD playback for me, mPlayer likes to crash on chapter changes but between the two I can play any file.

Did somebody has tried to install Totem Player 'cause I really had problems with: I compiled Xine-Lib but when when I click in totem rpm File it say that it requires Xine components...
I too got Totem from freshrpms yum archive but I'm experiencing some problems (Totem chrashes silently, can't playback some mpeg files, displays only a blue screen until resized...) which I never experienced with Totem from the livna.org rep I used under FC1.
I get the same bluish screen with totem, until I resize it as you point out.

I can't play Windows Media Player 9 files, which I can understand, but the.wmv files that use the older format(s) play, but with crappy video and nothing but static coming out of the speakers.
As far as the.wmv stuff goes, I tried using the package manager to download the stuff from PLF, but I have yet to be able to successfully download/install anything from there.
They play (as long as they're not Windows Media 9 files), but the sound is pure static.

Not me. A basic feature of an audio player is to be able to play audio.
But you have to consider all kinds of possibilities for various users.
