Toto (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Toto (IPA pronunciation: [toto]) is an American rock/pop/prog band which had their greatest commercial success in the 1980s.
Toto was formed in Los Angeles in 1977 (see 1977 in music) by David Paich, Steve Lukather, Bobby Kimball, brothers Steve and Jeff Porcaro, and David Hungate, the son of former United States Congressman and United States District Court Judge William L. Hungate.

The band seems to be better than ever now and it will always be a pleasure to sing with a "one of a kind band" like Toto.
TOTO always was and still is a very special band, very different from all other kinds of groups with very special fans also.
As for the Toto fans, you can expect that when the next Toto CD comes out, it will be a very memorable one and probably one of the best efforts of the band to date.

DVD Verdict Review - Toto: 25th Anniversary (Live In Amsterdam)
The band has been keeping surprisingly busy for the last quarter-century, and long after fans in North America found better things to do with their money than buy Toto records, European fans continued to eat them up with a big expensive spoon.
It is exactly the sort of performance one would expect from a musically creative and talented band after a quarter of a century of playing together—astonishingly proficient on their instruments, lacking some of the spark and vocal range of their youth, but undoubtedly having a gay ol' time back in the leather pants.
Edge enhancement is noticeable on close examination, and the band members seem to have purposefully chosen outfits so garish and tacky that they continually befuddle the rendering capabilities of the average DVD player, making things shimmer like a mirage in the desert.

David Hungate explained to them that, in Latin, the word "toto" means "total" or "all-encompassing," and given this group's long list of studio accolades and their collective ability to play in any given situation, the name TOTO was chosen as the official title of the new record and the band name.
The band, Jeff’s family, friends, fans, and the worldwide music community mourned the passing of a man, who was not only one of the greatest drummers of his generation, but was, as Lukather has consistently said, "a true soul brother" and an incredibly giving and selfless individual.
The record was released in October, and the band left for their 25th Anniversary Tour later that month, visiting all of Europe and closing the run in the Far East at the end of December.

TOTO filled my summer of 1986, and I still respect highly the talented musicians who are a part of this band.
This is a curious band, because they manage to pen great songs and also bland ones, but there's almost none of the latter on this, their debut album.
Toto had even biggest success with the mixed bag that is their fourth album, but to me their first is the best.

Although the spotlight in the US may have faded, what remained strong was a very loyal fan base that continued to grow far beyond US soil, has lasted for nearly three decades and crossed generations as the children of their original fans continue to discover them.
Ironically, the band's moniker TOTO, a Latin word meaning everyone, in total or all encompassing epitomizes this philosophy, a fact that has escaped most of the presumptuous critics who wrongly attributed the name to Dorothy's dog in the Wizard of Oz.
The band brought their personal bests into this project and invited many friends to drop by the party and participate.

Toto celebrate their 25th anniversary with this blistering live concert, filmed in Amsterdam on February 25th, 2003.
The original members of Toto were L.A.-based session men who had played with everyone from George Benson to Boz Scaggs and wanted to create something they could call their own.
The band endured some major personnel shake-ups over the years, and in 1992 founding drummer Jeff Porcaro died unexpectedly, but Toto continued working, even as the individual members kept their lucrative session careers going.

First off, I was a big fan of Toto after their debut some 28 years ago, but lost track of them after a few of their next 2-3 releases which I didn't think were up to par with the debut.
Toto has always been a very diverse band and that is one reason why I have liked their music since early 80's.
In conclusion TOTO have made a comeback of momumental proportions and they should be very proud of their accomplishments on this project.

A band like Toto can sell out large venues in places like Paris and Amsterdam, but would be hard pressed to fill a medium-sized club in the U.S.Most people would not consider Toto to be a progressive-rock band, but in concert their music comes alive with a raw intensity rarely heard on the studio albums.
