Touch (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Touch is the third album by New Wave duo Eurythmics (Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart), released in 1983 (see 1983 in music).
The music on Touch could still largely be called synth pop, however it displays a larger sound-palette that the more raw analogue synth feel of the Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) album, with a generally brighter, more poppy feel (still liberally doused in plenty of Lennox angst though).
In 2003, the album was ranked number 500 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

 Eurythmics
Touch, the follow-up to Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This), was released in 1984 and spawned three major hits.
In 1992 (see 1992 in music), Lennox released a solo album, Diva, which was a critical and popular sensation, while Stewart began writing film soundtracks and formed a band called "the Spiritual Cowboys," releasing two albums with this group.
Stewart released proper solo albums in 1995 (see 1995 in music), Greetings from the Gutter, and 1998 (see 1998 in music), Sly-Fi; neither of these albums were as well-received as his 1990 duet with saxophonist Candy Dulfer, "Lily Was Here." Lennox's Medusa, a cover album, fared much better, reaching number one in the UK.

 Touch
The album closes with the whispering quietude of "People Are Friendly," with keyboards swelling gently in hushed tones as voices appear and disappear through the mix for the entire ten and a half minutes before the album itself, like the track, disappears into silence, echoing memorably but indescribably in the mind of the listener.
Much of the album, which was recently issued on CD after having been previously released on vinyl, has a vaguely jazz-tinged flavor, but beneath its downtempo trappings, Dropsonde shows Biosphere remaining close to its ambient techno roots—perhaps even making something of a return to them after the starkness and minimalist austerity of recent Biosphere efforts.
Albums like Patashnik and Substrata are landmarks in ambient music not because they spawned a million rip-offs but because they work within a recognizable stylistic blueprint to create absolutely alien music, threatening total immersion to even the most cautious of "background" listeners.

My favorite song on the album is Dru Allen's second contribution, "less likely to believe." I listened to this one morning on the way to work on the bus and it really got to me. A nicely syncopated punchy glitch rhythm starts things off, soon joined by sparse guitar and scratchy electronic buzzes.
When Allen's voice enters this track, her singing is less ethereal than the opening track yet has lost none of its haunting beauty, but instead has become more "human," especially since the lyrics are easier to understand and she sings them clear-voiced (with only some slight echoing and occasional multi-tracking).
An album like Touch could take hours and hours of dedicated listening before one starts to appreciate all its wonders, whether the music of Zorko or the lyrics and singing of any of the vocalists.

 DPRP - Forgotten Sons: Touch
The name Touch would not ring many bells but their debut (and only) album is one of the cornerstones and earlier examples of the bridge between progressive and psychedelic music.
The album Touch (London/Deram SML 1033/Colesium DS51004) was released in 1969 and for various unknown reasons it bombed.
The early albums from bands like The Moody Blues and Procol Harum are often mentioned and are rather well known to progressive rock lovers, mainly on the basis of their possession of a hit single.

These were easy (and lazy) things to say, especially since the songwriting credits for Amerie's first album, All I Have, showed that the singer only had a hand in writing the one-minute outro.
To further emphasize the album's reliance on Amerie's talent, there are no guest MCs -- a rarity for a mainstream R&B album these days -- unless you count the Eve verse on a bonus remix.

 Duke Ellington
In the early 1960s Ellington was between recording contracts, which allowed him to record with a variety of new artists.
In 1962 he participated in a session which produced the Money Jungle (United Artists) album with Charles Mingus and Max Roach and recorded with John Coltrane for Impulse, who also recorded Ellington and his Orchestra with Coleman Hawkins.
Though his later work is overshadowed by his music of the early 1940s for some critics such as (controversially) James Lincoln Collier, Ellington continued to make vital and innovative recordings, including The Far East Suite (1966), The New Orleans Suite (1970), and The Afro-Eurasian Eclipse (1971)) until the end of his life.
