Big Black | Touch and Go/Quarterstick Records
1986 saw the release of Atomizer, as well as the release the Hammer Party album which was a compilation of the Lungs EP and the Bulldozer EP.
Shortly after those releases, freed from their Homestead deal, Big Black came to Touch and Go and recorded the Headache EP and Heartbeat 7” in the summer of 1986.
In 1992, Touch and Go released a Big Black live album and video, titled Pig Pile, that were recorded (mostly) in 1987 during Big Black’s final tour.

the scam: Prince - The Black Album
Prior to SOT Prince's albums were patchy affairs exhibiting undeniable moments of musical genius, but roughly 25% of any given Prince album tended to be self-indulgent soupy soul-funk shite.
Before the album could be released officially, however, Prince recalled all copies and abandoned the entire project, leaving roughly one hundred promotional vinyl copies in circulation, copies that would be widely bootlegged in the coming years.
As recompense, the Lovesexy album was released not long after, an album that was supposedly diametrically opposed to the evil of the Black Album.

Filmtracks: The Phantom of the Opera (Andrew Lloyd Webber)
The album of the original cast recording was one of the last widespread and successful LP releases, and the LP and CD together were the first musical to enter the charts at a resounding #1.
With over 24 million album sales of that recording since, it's safe to say that Webber's The Phantom of the Opera is a cult, a religion, and quite possibly one of the greatest compositions in the history of the musical and opera genres.
The album situation, should you be brave and actually risk tarnishing your opinion of the musical, is similar to that of the play.

Prince Discography - The Black Album
In their tongue-in-cheek advertisement for the album, the record company made an “amnesty offer” to bootleg owners: the first 1,000 people who send in their bootleg copies of the album would receive new copies of the album.
Three Black Album songs were recorded at Sunset Sound for the birthday party Prince threw for Sheila E. on December 11th 1986: “Bob George,” “2 Nigs United 4 West Compton,” and “Le Grind.” Two songs, “Cindy C.” and “Dead On It,” were recorded during sessions in Prince’s home studio in March 1987.
It has yet to achieve gold album status, having sold around 295,000 copies since its release, which was considerably less than expected but perhaps understandable in light of how many fans already had the album, in one form or another.

Amazon.com: Touch: Music: Laura Branigan   (Site not responding. Last check: )
For Touch, her followup to the stunning Hold Me, Laura Branigan signed on with a new producer and came up with a sound that still recalls her early period, but somewhat tempered by a more melancholy sound.
It was her third album, 1984's "Self Control" that truly solidified her status as a top female performer of "Diva" status (the term "Diva" is often thrown around today to refer to a great female vocalist).
Thus by the time her fifth album, "Touch" was released, Branigan would find herself in a first time position of having to make a comeback.

This album came hot off the heels of her chart flop Hold Me. After departing from Jack White (he produced her first 3 albums) to go with Harold Faltemyer on that album, she again had several different producers for this one.
Touch - Another rocker for Ms B. I had read somewhere that this is the type of music that she really loved to make.
Touch is a really great album if you like HI-NRG dance, rock-edge power pop and beautiful ballads all in one place.

Springsteen's album, Born to Run, became a hit, and he jumped to arena status as a live act, but as many people were turned off by the press campaign as turned on by the records and shows.
The album was a hit, though it did not match the success of Born to Run.
Springsteen returned with the double album The River (October 1980), which topped the charts and featured his first Top Ten hit, "Hungry Heart." Nobody was calling him a hype anymore, but Springsteen retreated from his expanding success, next recording the low-key album Nebraska (September 1982), a virtual demo tape on vinyl.

Amazon.com: Touch: Music: Eurythmics   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Touch is another synthpop masterpiece by Eurythmics that has stood the test of time very well.
With that being said, I was afraid that I would hold myself to the standards of that album and thus find myself disappointed, despite the fact that I have always loved their classic "Here comes the rain again".
The Eurythmics did better stuff both before and after "Touch," and I suspect that this album suffered by the fact that it was released just after the duo had become superstars.

Her big, boomy voice is perfect for some of the moody ballads on this collection, such as "Over Love," "Meaning of the Word," and "Spirit of Love," but there are so many of those successfully evocative cuts that the dance songs don't fit as seamlessly as they should.
Laura Branigan 's fifth album, Touch, showed signs of maturity as she made a bid (that was not quite successful) for adult contemporary crossover -- a smart chance to take considering the longevity many A/C acts have.
The lyrics on many of the cuts are poetic and adult, making this atmospheric collection the best product she'd released so far; the material is far better suited to her voice -- which has never sounded better -- than the Europop she recorded prior to this.

KISS Asylum: "Psycho Circus" Studio Album Reviews
This is the most traditional Simmons song on the album despite the fact that all four guys sing a line or two on it.
There are songs on the album that are too glossy and commercial and there are songs that are too dark and gloomy, but there are not many songs in the "true KISS spirit" as I interpret it.
A fair distribution with 12 songs on the album could have been 4 or 5 songs mainly written by Paul (one of them sung by Peter), 4 mainly written by Gene, 2 or 3 mainly written by Ace and 1 mainly written by Peter.

While Kenny Neal's dad, Raful, had to wait 30 years to release his first album, the next generation of Neals is quicker off the mark.
Like the better-known Robert Cray, Neal's definition of the blues seems to be one of feel and emotion as much as of structure and form.
While the majority of the album is composed of Neal's accessible rock-blues hybrid that could propel him to fame, he takes the time to visit the history of the music as well.

There had been hit rap singles and albums before him, but MC Hammer was the man who truly brought rap music to a mass pop audience.
Even if he was never able to duplicate that level of success, and even if his street credibility was virtually non-existent, Hammer still broke down numerous doors for rap music in the mainstream, demonstrating that hip-hop had the potential for blockbuster success in the marketplace.
Several projects were rumored to be in the works, including another album (War Chest: Turn of the Century) and a soundtrack to the film Return to Glory: The Powerful Stirring of the Black Man, but none ever appeared.

Della Reese is part of that exclusive society of actors who have created memorable, timeless television characters: in Reese's case, it is Touched By An Angel's Tess, the gruff but good-hearted supervisor angel who steers both her trainees and their human "assignments" back on the right path.
By the age of 13, she was touring with gospel great Mahalia Jackson; then, at 18, she formed the Meditation Singers and became the first performer to bring gospel music to the casinos of Las Vegas.
Reese's current projects include a new album based on her 27-city tour with her revue, "Some of My Best Friends Are the Blues," as well as song on the Touched By An Angel Soundtrack.

Many fans, including myself, believe this album to be the band's best work to date and perhaps one of the best albums ever released by anyone.
The album's journey to Nebraska begins with an abstract tale told on the liner notes, a story of Gretchen, a small girl-explorer setting out for a beautiful land known to her only in her dreams.
The mere touch of her skin to the knob caused the warmest sentience of ease, comfort and comradery to shoot through her entire being, inside and out as if to prepare her for whatever lurked beyond that wall.

Welcome to the Official Diane Schuur Website
Diane Schuur's fourth album for GRP and her first with the Count Basie Orchestra places her with a band that is so charismatic and distinctive that it overwhelms any singer who is anything less than a strong and positive musical personality.
During almost half a century, a multitude of singers have gone through the Basie band but only a handful have made a strong enough personal impression in the company of this band to be thought of as "Basie singers." Actually only two--Jimmy Rushing and Joe Williams--fully qualify for that distinction.
And there is guitarist Freddie Green's "Corner Pocket" which, with lyrics by Donald Wolf that gave it a new title, "Until I Met You," built into the last of Basie's big hits at the time of his death in 1984.
