Tourist (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tourist is the second full-length album by British rock band Athlete, first released in early 2005.
Tourist is more stripped-down, sombre and reflective than Vehicles and Animals, and is also musically richer (arguably with similarities to Coldplay).
At the end of 2005, Tourist became the 32nd best-selling album of the year in the UK, and "Wires" was the 89th best-selling single.

Tourist, his first album for the legendary Blue Note label, certainly justifies the continuing hype.
Tourist exhibits the diversity of his earlier work but also has greater dance floor application.
On Tourist, St Germain -- the nom de mix of veteran French DJ Ludovic Navarre -- solves the great mystery of travel: how to be in two places at once.

The album, entitled "Arizona and New Mexico, 1900" was compiled in that year or shortly after by Charles Emerson Beecher, who was a professor of paleontology at Yale University.
Examination of the album in June 1997 revealed that the cover was already completely detached from the textblock.
Finally, the album pages were cornered onto acid-free cardstock sheets for support and protection during handling; the pages were then stored in a box in their numbered order.

Eardrums reviews: Athlete - "tourist" (2005)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-15)
The South London foursome Athlete's second album "Tourist" is a move away from the quirky pop they presented on their debut from 2003 "vehicles and animals".
The good thing is that he sings a bit different on the last track on the album, the laidback and beautiful acoustic ballad "I love", which is one of my favourites on the album.
If you accept an album with fine radio-friendly popsongs and you're not looking for anything new and innovative, this album is a fine one.

Athlete Tourist Album Review - SoundsXP
‘Tourist’ is the return and, in a nutshell, suffers from the same problems.
As an album it is weak and too full of vacuous filler, however, there are small gems within it.
The awful truth is that the duller parts of the first album have just been perfected and polished.

CLUAS Indie Album Reviews: Placid Recordings 'Night Tourist'
Designed with the late night/early morning listener firmly in mind, "Night Tourist" is the debut LP from the Kerry collective, Placid Recordings.
Together they have crafted an album, which signals the diversity of each member, yet remains consistent in its quest to deliver quality electronic music..
Hopefully "Night Tourist" is the first in a series of recording projects from this crowd.

Athlete - Tourist : album review
Athlete's debut album was a promising little post-Britpop number crammed with quirky songs such as El Salvador and You Got The Style, together with more languid ballads such as Beautiful.
Tourist, on the other hand, has that something special in spades.
The title track too, is a beautifully melancholic number, with a guitar line that tugs on the heartstrings and Potts pleading "just wanna be with you...my baby" in a manner that should have Chris Martin very worried that he's about to lose his target audience.

The only things we argue about as a band are the songs appearing on the setlist and the songs on to appear on the album.
Our b-sides are often songs which are chosen for the album by two or three people, but rejected by the others.
The tourist is the last song on the album, but that doesn't mean it offers a solution or concludes something.

 Athlete - Tourist - Review - Uncut.co.uk
Although it may be a typical second album, i dont think there is a song that is not worth listening to.
In my opinion this album is a real grower - first casual comparisons to Coldplay and other MOR indie bands soon give way to appreciation of the unique elements to the sound - the keyboard sounds and parts in particular give this album a very individual edge.
I'm sure Tourist will feature in many dinner parties for the mid thirties who have forgotten what music is all about and are trying to recapture their youth whilst trying to look cool - I'm sure these people also think Black Eyed Peas are 'catchy'.

After their first album brought Athlete both commercial and critical success (including a Mercury Prize nomination), it was always going to be a tough act to follow.
But on Tourist, the London four-piece have ditched the quirky pop of their debut and instead created an album that rivals Coldplay with its sweeping guitars, soaring melodies and emotive lyrics.
As a result, Tourist manages to sound both epic and personal at the same time--a change reminiscent of Radiohead's move from the Britpop of Pablo Honey to the inspired songwriting of The Bends.

Tourism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 2004, there were over 763 million international tourist arrivals.
The contemporary phenomenon of mass tourism may sometimes result in overdevelopment, however alternative forms of tourism such as ecotourism seek to avoid such outcomes by pursuing tourism in a sustainable way.
The terms tourism and tourist are sometimes used pejoratively to imply a shallow interest in the cultures or locations visited by tourists.

This album is a significant step forward for the band, exploring new epic rock territory as previously inhabited by Coldplay & recently Keane, & includes the feel-good anthem 'Half Light' & hit single 'Wires'.
the album starts off with "chances" which is slow and melodic, but then switches in to a higher gear with "half light." "tourist", "wires" and "trading air" are three stellar songs with amazing lyrics that you can not only relate to, but you can really feel what the singer is feeling.
The album kicks off with 'Chances', which at first, seems like a slow piano ballad, before blasting off in a chorus filled with a whole orchestra, which will leave you singing "It's all about your, cries and kisses".

 Athlete - Tourist (Album Review)
Much like Keane and Snow Patrol, Athlete is betting the farm that it is. On its sophomore effort Tourist, the band trades the indie rock etchings of its debut Vehicles and Animals for a simpler, more conventional sound, but although it strives for majestic, melodramatic melancholia, it largely achieves mere syrupy superficiality.
Delivering lyrics that are full of heartache and yearning, lead singer Joel Potts relishes his new role as a purveyor of sensitive-guy vulnerability while, swirling around him, the music routinely alternates between its quiet verses and its loud choruses, incorporating along the way an array of gimmicks plucked from the playbook of overwrought emotion.
For the most part, however, Tourist’s grandiose gestures not only fall flat, but also land with a resoundingly dull thud.

The only thing that didn't give the album top marks was that some of the improvisation gets a little tedious.
