The analysis was performed to determine the feasibility of the tower to support the proposed RFS equipment.
The evaluation was required to verify the adequacy of the tower and guy wires to resist the loads imparted from existing equipment and existing tower loadings.
Additionally, we have extensive experience in evaluation of towers for the addition of DTV (or HDTV) antennas and are proud to have played a key role in the first commercial installation of a full-power DTV antenna in the northwest region of the United States.

Are there differences in fm broadcast antenna performance?
The most popular fm broadcast antennas use a transmission line "backbone" joined with EIA RS-225 flanged junctions and are end or center fed. Element spacing is usually one-wavelength (ten feet) but sometimes is one-half to eliminate the end-fire mode of phase addition, lessening downward radiation.
When the antenna is mounted on the side of narrow pole or small cross-section tower, this portion often resembles a circular pattern, but as the tower width increases, very strange patterns may result, sometimes with minimum radiation in the direction of antenna mounting.
In the case of a tapered tower section typical of large self-supporting towers, the effect of the sloping tower adjacent to the plumb antenna may cause unpredicted beam tilt, skewing the vertical pattern so much that the energy is no longer directed toward the horizon.

I recall the case of a station with a four tower, widely-spaced rectangular array on land that used to be a desert.
Provided that the tower can support the additional antenna and the weight and wind loading of a folded unipole, the grounded tower is optimal because lightning problems should be greatly reduced, signal improvement may be noticed and the potential exists for additional tenants without the need for any additional antenna changes.
