		Lucan is located in southwestern Ontario, 90 km northeast of SARNIA and 22 km northwest of LONDON.
		In 1999 the village merged with the township of Biddulph to form the township of Lucan Biddulph.
		Lucan has received unwelcome notoriety because of its connection with the savage massacre of the DONNELLYS in 1880 on a nearby farm.

	History of Lucan And Area
		Lucan, Ontario, may be best known for the Black Donnellys and the famous massacre that took place northeast of the village.
		Among the first residents of Biddulph Township were free fls from Cincinnati, Ohio, who settle in the area in the autumn of 1829.
		As Assessment Roll for Biddulph Township for 1835 indicates that the colonists were indeed making progress, and that they had cleared 100 acres of land in five years, and owned approximately 100 head of livestock.

		By 1857 Donnelly and his wife Johannah Magee had a family of seven boys, but had been able to purchase only half of the 100 acres they had been living on; in 1856 they had been ejected from the south 50 acres.
		After the harassment and boycotting the Donnellys had suffered, any other family would have left the community; the Donnellys would not and so, on 4 Feb. 1880, with a well-planned attack, another mob, at night this time, effected a final solution.
