Nestled amongst the lush, wooded hills and the peaceful rivers snaking their ways through the valleys, Toyooka represents the opposite of Tokyo's modern hustle and bustle, neon lights shining bright, the ear-shattering noise of the pachinko parlors blasting in every alley all hours of the night.
It was an experience that is rare and held in great value to me. Having traveled to other areas in Japan, (Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, etc.) and experiencing what they could give me, I am confident in saying that in no other town would I have been able to gain such a pure experience of Japan.

 Decades-long project revives a symbol of wild Japan
Although what was thought to be the nation's last wild Oriental white stork died in 1971 in Toyooka, this year promises to be a milestone for the species, as the bird called konotori in Japanese, makes its first steps back into the wild.
This week, the Toyooka center announced that seven storks would be released near the center, and two others from its breeding base, located five kilometers from the center.
As the Toyooka Basin, where the city is located, is a low, wide, flat plain, about 12,000 houses in the city and three towns along the river were flooded reaching above floor level in many cases.

How the founder population of PGCs is separated from the rest of the pluripotent epiblast has been unclear because of technical difficulties in distinguishing PGCs from embryonic stem (ES) cells, since standard PGC markers (OCT4 and alkaline phosphatase) are also positive in ES cells.
In the September 15 PNAS, Yayoi Toyooka and colleagues at the Mitsubishi Kagaku Institute of Life Sciences use the mouse vasa homolog (Mvh) as a molecular marker for PGCs and show that ES cells can form these germ cells in vitro (PNAS, DOI:10.1073/pnas.1932826100, September 15, 2003).

Currently, Dave-land is approximately Toyooka, Japan where he's teaching English under the Japan Educators and Trainers program.

Mitsuhiro Kakita, head of the hospital's psychiatric division, said a woman whose house was flooded visited the hospital complaining of the symptoms and was diagnosed as suffering from ASD late last month.
