Industry trade group - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An industry trade group also known as a trade association, is generally a public relations organization founded and funded by corporations that operate in a specific industry.
In countries with a social market economy the role of industry trade groups is often taken by employers' organizations which also have a role in the social dialogue.
One of the primary purposes of trade groups, particularly in the United States and to a similar but lesser extent elsewhere, is to attempt to influence public policy in a direction favorable to the group's members.

European Free Trade Association - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The European Free Trade Association (EFTA) was established on May 3, 1960 as an alternative for European states that were not allowed or did not wish to join the European Community (now the European Union).
Finland became an associate member in 1961 (it later became a full member in 1986), and Iceland joined in 1970.
Due to the advancement of the EEC and the decision to focus on Europe, rather than the United States and Commonwealth, as trading partners, the United Kingdom chose to apply for EEC membership in 1961 (however, it did not become a member until 1973).

The Global Free Trade Association: A New Trade Agenda   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
It is an optimum time to initiate a Global Free Trade Association (GFTA) of countries that are committed to free trade and free movement of capital.
Such an association would enable these countries to accelerate the removal of any trade barriers and investment restrictions they now have and would encourage other countries to open their economies unilaterally to trade in order to join.
Rather than being seen as a substitute for other mechanisms that further free trade, such as the WTO or bilateral trade deals, the GFTA should be seen as the basis of a larger trade agenda--to promote free trade by any means.
