The redevelopment of the blocks in Kingston Street is the first step in the council's 10-year masterplan to regenerate Tradeston from a rundown, semi-derelict "ghost town" to a vibrant riverside community populated by professionals and young families.
Alburn Tradeston Ltd, the council's preferred developer, plans to turn the three blocks into 955 luxury apartments with underground parking, and 90,000sq ft of leisure, retail and creche facilities.
The Tradeston site is within walking distance of the city centre and its closeness to the planned M74 motorway link, as well as the planned bridge over the Clyde, is expected to make it even more attractive.
