Traditionalist Catholic - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In one sense, the term "traditional Catholic" is said to refer to Roman Catholics who would like to see the worship and customs of the Roman Catholic Church return to those before the reforms of the 1960s and to other Catholics who attempt to follow what they consider the traditional teachings of the Catholic Church.
Mainstream Catholics have, however, been known to object to the exclusive appropriation of this expression by traditionalists, since, because of the position of Sacred Tradition in Catholic teaching, the general body of Catholics is essentially traditional.
The number of traditionalist Catholics of all categories is very difficult to pin down, but they are a minority of the worldwide Catholic population: for example, according to an unconfirmed report by a Society of St. Pius X member, the Vatican authorities estimate that the relatively small number of 1.2 million Catholics support his Society.

Traditional Catholics see the Novus Ordo as being a fruit of this "Paschal theology" as it is marked by such things as the replacement of Altars with tables, a focus on "community" rather than the offering of the Son to the Father, and so on.

It is not the traditional Catholic that is schismatic, but the post-Conciliar Church - and that body is not so much schismatic - that would be to place it on a par with the Greek Orthodox - as it is heretical.
Threats of excommunication by the post-Conciliar Church are also a 'joke.' A traditional Catholic is delighted to be outside the new Church, for that Church is not the Body of Christ.

There is a sound tradition among Catholic theologians and canonists that subjects have a right to resist unjust or too burdensome legislation, even though the legislator has not exceeded the strict limits of his authority in imposing it.
As traditional Catholics we tend to give the Tridentine Mass priority over everything, but it would be unrealistic to expect all Catholics to take the same attitude.

Some of todayís top Catholic writers celebrate many traditional Catholic devotions such as the rosary, the stations of the cross, holy water, novenas, relics, the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and more.
For Roman Catholics, the liturgy, or the Mass, is the central focus of their spiritual life.
But I learned so much not just about the history and the traditions behind these devotions (and others--my favorite essay was on what the tradition of the saints means) but also on the ways that the individual writers find personal meaning in these ways of prayer.
