20th WCP: The Contemporary Conflict of Values
The plurality and relativity of values is the primary cause of contemporary conflicts.
The traditional conflict of morality occurred mainly in the process of choosing and deciding how to act, people's ideas of value about what were good or evil usually were clear and definite, while the contemporary conflict of values occurs not only in the process of choice and decision, but also in the depth of ideology.
Traditional order was a unified and static order, in which individuals had no freedom, society lacked vigor, and social order and equilibrium was very fragile because society was excessively unified and social relations were over-tight, so society would fall into turbulence if a contradiction or conflict occurred at some link of the tight relations.

Traditional values - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Traditional values refer to those beliefs, moral codes, and mores that are passed down from generation to generation within a culture, subculture or community.
However "family Values" is arguably a modern politicized subset of traditional values, which is a larger concept, anthropologically speaking.
It can mean the actual values that are claimed or perceived to have remained relatively unchanged for centuries, for example the values in the Apostles' Creed, the preservation of the Coptic language in Coptic Christianity, the values in the Hadith, or certain rites in Orthodox Judaism.

Patriotism is one of the core traditional values and there is an obvious link between it, military might and popular willingness to sustain large defence budgets.
The first is that the values gap may be widening a little, and starting to affect perceptions of foreign-policy interest on which the transatlantic alliance is based.
And those whose values differ from the mainstream seek to impose their choices through persuasion, bullying, and sometimes, outright force via the political process, usually by arguing that some choices are simply ugly, offensive, or beyond the bounds of the acceptable.

Since purpose or values cannot ultimately be derived from the natural world, if there is a non-arbitrary fundamental basis for human values; thus, morals, then there must be some intelligence in the past that had a plan in mind for humans in the future which the present and today's future now exist within.
The more generally accepted a value and the more it relates to maintaining a system that allows for people to pursue their own values the more reason laws should be made to protect that value.
For example, the right to live is a most generally accepted value that is important for maintaining a system that allows for people to pursue their own values; thus, laws should be made that protect people from being killed.

I share Kotter's view that values and values change are important, but that it is dangerous to think that this should be the first step in transforming organizations, much less countries.
Values are part of culture, and cultures are notoriously difficult to change, not because the beliefs and practices come with our genes but because they have been shaped over time, hammered into our collective psyches.

One is a move from traditional values, like the importance of religion and respect for authority, family and nation, to what are termed secular-rational values, like personal autonomy, political independence and ethical relativism on matters like abortion, divorce and euthanasia.
The other dimension is a shift from survival values, like assuring material well-being and physical safety, acceptance of hardship, political caution and wariness toward outsiders, to self-expression values, like political activism, personal fulfillment, intellectual and spiritual exploration and tolerance of outsiders and cultural diversity.
