A traffic ticket is a citation commonly issued by a police officer to motorists who fail to obey traffic laws.
Traffic tickets generally come in two forms, citing a moving violation, such as exceeding the speed limit, or citing a non-moving violation, such as a parking ticket.
In the United States, most traffic violations are civil infractions, although multiple prior offenses or egregious offenses may mean the violation is the more serious charge of a misdemeanor, or the most serious, a felony.

82291 -- Abbott v. Kansas Board of Examiners in Optometry -- Allegrucci -- Kansas Supreme Court
In addition, it concluded that the board violated Bracegirdle's right to notice and an opportunity to be heard when it found that she had violated the code by conduct not charged.
At the second level, however, with no notice to the accused, the board found that she was in violation of the code for previously uncharged conduct arising out of the same dentures incident.
As a result, her license to practice medicine was revoked by the board on the ground that she willfully refused to appear for an informal interview with the board in violation of a state statute.

If you receive a traffic ticket in another state and want to avoid points on your Texas driver license by taking a driving safety class (defensive driving class), the decision to allow you to do so is strictly up to the judge who has jurisdiction of your case.
Effective September 1, 2005, that military member is permitted to dismiss a Texas traffic ticket by taking a TEA-approved driving safety course if he or she has not completed a driving safety (or similar) course for ticket dismissal in another state within the 12 months preceding the date of the offense.

Since the 1950s, United States traffic engineers have been taught the 85th Percentile Rule, which claims the maximum speed limit on a previously unrestricted road should be set to the speed below which 85% of vehicles are traveling.
With the passage of the PRC's first road-related law, the Road Traffic Safety Law of the People's Republic of China, speed limits were raised nationwide to 120 km/h as of May 1, 2004; however, the updating of signs (if and when it becomes complete) will still take some time.
However, it is commonly believed that unrealistic or unreasonably low speed limits lead to disrespect for the law, contempt of law enforcement, and larger speed differences between faster and slower drivers.

While a proposed technical violation of building laws (e.g., a violation which does not affect the public safety) will cause a responsible architect to take action to oppose its implementation, the Board specifically does not make such a proposed violation trigger the provisions of this rule.
Commentary: This rule is concerned with the violation of a state of federal criminal law while in the conduct of the registrant's professional practice.
The board assumes that murder, rape, arson, burglary, extortion, grand larceny, and the like, would be conduct subject to the rule, while disorderly conduct, traffic violations, tax violations, and the like, would not be considered subject to the rule.

Whether you will get points on your license for a conviction of a traffic violation depends upon the relationship between the ticketing state and your state of residence.
For instance, two states may have reciprocity but for some reason a conviction may not be actually reported.
For Reciprocal states, the violation committed in the other state is reported to the state of residence and the violation itself is placed on the resident's record.

When a law enforcement officer stops a driver for a traffic offense, the license is used to quickly establish a motorist's identity and indicate whether the motorist should be allowed to continue to drive.
Because many traffic offenses contain cumulative penalties for convictions, it is essential that state officials have complete knowledge of a driver's history to make an accurate assessment of whether to license a prospective driver or to determine an appropriate penalty for additional violations.
