 The Salt Grass Trail Ride
February 21st 2004 marked the beginning of the 53rd annual Salt Grass Trail ride from Wittenburg's Pasture in Catspring, Texas.
I wasn't able to ride the trail all week (Texas Bob has a day job) but I was able to spend some time with the trail riders and ride one day in the Marks Family wagon, the founder's wagon and number one wagon on the trail.
For every person riding a horse or in a wagon there is probably another person pulling trailers directing traffic, running the sound truck, moving and setting up the next camp site, moving and servicing the porta potties, and cooking three meals a day.

The 39th annual Chief Joseph Trail Ride, sponsored by the Appaloosa Horse Club, reached the Bears Paw Battlefield on Friday, August 1, for a commemoration ceremony on the little butte overlooking the battleground where the Nez Perce endured a six-day siege in 1877.
The ride through the canyon crossed dry gullies and shoulder-high sagebrush, and riders often spotted caves in the cliffs lining the edge of the canyon.
The ride back up out of the canyon was a long haul for some of the less-in-shape horses, but the ride scouts ensured that frequent rest stops kept overheating at bay.

 2004 Summer Trail Ride
The Arabian Horse Association of New England held a pleasure trail ride Sunday, August 22 at Mount Toby Stables/Craig Equestrian Center in Leverett, Massachusetts.
Some rode the ten mile loop, some chose the 20 mile loop, but all enjoyed a glorious summer day with their human and equine friends.
Riders seemed pleased with the assortment they had to choose from in making their own hearty sandwiches complimented by pasta salad, chips, brownies and assorted beverages served after the riding.
