RX-7 Owners Club - M2, Pettit, or Unobtanium Trailing arms....
The trailing arms are more for clearance issues as Bacon stated...the Unobtanium is bushings only..if you have the arms you dont need those specific bushing because they would be replaced with the arms...
Correction: the Unobtainium trailing arm bushing replaces the rubber bushing at the "eye" of the trailing arm, which is the forward mount.
The trailing arm bolt passes through a pillow ball bushing in the lower control arm which is not replaceable with a standard bushing because of the required range of motion.

One of the main differences between the M-Coupe rear trailing arms and the earlier E30 arms is the factory addition of an "A-arm" type fortification between the two "legs" of the trailing arm.
This was presumably done to strengthen the trailing arms so that they could cope with the much higher torque output of the U.S. and Euro spec M-Roadsters and M-Coupes.

Install Rear Trailing Arms   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Installing aftermarket boxed rear trailing arms is an effective suspension mod that most car crafters can do themselves--it’s very common on rear-coil-sprung GM cars such as A- and G-bodies from 1964-1988.
The arms themselves are different for the late-model A- and G-bodies than they are for the 1964-1972 A-body cars (Chevelles, Skylarks, and such), but the installation procedure is very similar.
Our trailing arm mounting locations were grunge covered and scaly, so we used a piece of 100-grit sandpaper to remove the deposits that could complicate the new arms’ installation and possibly grind into the bushings.

We're starting at the rear of the car, specifically at the trailing arms, because this is what you see when you're riding high in the streets or at the show.
We believe that reinforced arms that are lacking in looks show that the welder either didn't know how to clean up the look or just didn't want to take the time.
The correct way to do this is to have a gap between your flat bar and your trailing arm and fill the gap with a heavy, deep penetrating weld that not only digs deep into the base metals but will make grinding the weld down a lot easier, essentially leaving you with a cleaner look.

Once you are happy the trailing arm brace fits properly, drop some blue Loctite on the bolt threads and tighten down the nuts (torque to 70 foot-pounds).

The lower trailing arms for use with a sway bar are unique, and the usual characteristics is that the arm is boxed and gussetted.
The upper arms vary, and there are two part numbers in the Chevrolet Parts Interchange Manual that separate 1964-67 and 1968-72 Chevelles and BOP A-Bodies.The lower arms are interchangeable (all years), and a car that did not have a sway bar can be modified to fit.
