A sailing ship is a (Air moving (sometimes with considerable force) from an area of high pressure to an area of low pressure) wind-powered (A vessel that carries passengers or freight) ship.
Ocean journeys by sailing ship can take many months, and a common hazard is becoming becalmed because of lack of wind, or being blown off course by severe (A violent weather condition with winds 64-72 knots (11 on the Beaufort scale) and precipitation and thunder and lightening) storms.
The sailing ship was generally replaced by the (A ship powered by one or more steam engines) steamship during the 19th century.

The original Training Ship Indefatigable was established in 1865 on a ship loaned by the Admiralty and moored on the River Mersey at New Ferry, Birkenhead.
Mr James Bibby contributed £5,000 to transform her from a fighting ship into a training ship, and this was to be the start of a long association between the Bibby family and the school.
In addition to cutters and yawls and a hospital ship, the 45-acre shore establishment included a church, gymnasium, swimming baths, etc. The training given was primarily for sea-service, and 90 percent of the boys gained the higher ratings in the Royal Navy.

The "Mars" was built in 1840 and was engaged in the Crimean Warand afterwardson the Mediteranean Station.
A fine specimen of the older type of British battleship, the "Mars" was moored in the Tay on the 17th of August, 1869, for the purpose of being used as a training-ship for boys without suitable homes, or beyond the control of parents.
During the year the ships brig, the "Francis Molison", used to cruise round the coast with a compliment of 70 or 80 boys until it was sold in 1919.

Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, the Rose operated as a sail training vessel from 1985 to 2001.
In 2003 the ship appeared as the HMS Surprise in the 20th Century fox film Master and Commander: Far Side of the World starring Russell Crowe and directed by Peter Weir.
Now renamed Surprise in honor of her role in the film, the ship is open to the public daily as a dockside attraction at the Maritime Museum of San Diego.

The sail training ship tied up at the American Shed in Gothenburg's harbour, and was open to the public during the weekend.
This Italian sail training ship is designed by marine engineer Francesco Rotundi, and the building process was finished in 1930 at the royal shipyard Castellammare di Stabia.
The ship measures 101 meters from bowsprit to stern, and the width is 15.5 meters.  The mainmast is 54 meters high, and total sail area is 2800sq.m.

Description: This is the second training vessel known as 'Worcester', serving from 1877 to 1939.
She had originally been the 'Royal Sovereign' when work began on her in 1833, but she was not launched until 1860, after further name changes to 'Royal Frederick' and then 'Frederick William'.
By this time, with the launch of the 'Warrior', warship technology had moved on, and the 'Frederick William' was not fit for service in battle, so the Admiralty were happy to loan her when the Board of the Thames Nautical College asked for a replacement for their original training vessel.

With the establishment of the Australian Navy Cadets the administration and operational command was vested in the Chief of Naval Staff and delegated to the Director of Reserves - Navy.
Each unit at one time may need to liaise directly with the RAN and they liaise with the Cadet Liaison Officer who is their representative.
As there is a requirement for cadets to participate in common training and activities the Navy is kind enough to provide the ANC with the facilities in which to do so.
