TMSV: Geelong Pengelley tram No 22
These were the largest and heaviest single truck passenger tramcars built in Australia, and also the last to be built with clerestory roofs, and they were the last new cars built for service in Geelong, as all subsequent additions to the fleet were purchased from the M&MTB.
These tramcars were also notable for their use of the Brill Radiax truck, whose only other use in Victoria was with the MBCTT T class tramcars.
This tramcar was acquired without a truck in 1969 — that of T class 182 being acquired from the M&MTB and modified for use when this vehicle is restored.

It appears that the Corporation started running tramcars from the Guildhall to Millbay and West Hoe on March 11th 1893, presumably using the four Company cars they were going to purchase as the first five of the Bristol Wagon Works Company vehicles did not arrive until Saturday April 1st.
Tramcars could also be housed there, but the building needed to have a roof put on.
Four of the tramcars were being used on the West Hoe section and two would be used on the Houdiscombe Road service, which was to be started as soon as possible.

 TMSV: tramcar M&MTB Z1 No 5
It is one of only four Melbourne tramcars [1] to have been classified in three different classes during its service life — Z, ZC and Z1.
To highlight the beginning of a new era in Melbourne’s tramways, the introduction of the Z class resulted in the restarting of the tramcar numbering at 1 and a distinctive new orange livery.
The other tramcars to be classified in three different classes were 681 and 682, both of which were built as CW5 cars with maximum traction trucks, later being converted to standard W5 configuration in 1956 and as SW5 rebuilds in the 1980s.

The tramcars are steered by an automated steering system which follows a "target" in the guidelane.
When tramcars are driven out of the guidelane to storage and maintenance facilities, the ABS-Logic and the automated steering system are deactivated, and the drivers steer in the conventional manner.
Tramcars approaching a green light maintain their current speed while the ABS-Logic "holds" the light green until the tramcar has cleared the intersection.

The argument is that tramcars are powered by electricity, which in turn is generated by coal.
We must also take into account the fact that tramcars, theoretically at least, can replace a much larger number of cars on the streets and are found to be more comfortable by women, children and the elderly.
The frequency of tramcars also needs to be monitored, because it is fairly common to see two or more tramcars trundling down the Maidan at all hours and in one direction, with barely half-a-dozen passengers in each of them.

When the tramcars arrived at Stacey Hill Farm, they were found to be the matching halves of the lower deck of the number two tramcar, where they were reunited for the first time for over 50 years.
Fortunately the tramcar survived the disastrous fire at the Museum on 1st January 1996, but this together with the construction of a new transport display building provided the stimulus to commence work to return it to its former glory.
This does lend some credence to the idea that the tramcars were originally constructed as singledeckers, and increased in capacity by the addition of a top deck, to facilitate expected carriage of large numbers of railway workmen, and before they started work on the tramway.
