Trango II (6,327 m) lies northwest of the Monk, and the highest summit on the ridge, Trango Ri (6,363 m), lies northwest of Trango II.
The east face of Great Trango is the world's tallest vertical rock face, and was first climbed (to the East Summit) in 1984 by the Norwegians Hans Christian Doseth and Finn Dæhli, who both died on the descent.
This route ascends the South-East Face of the Tower, and was climbed almost entirely free (in stages, using fixed ropes to return to a base each night).

Great Trango tower is reached via Dungee glacier and is supposed to be a dangerous approach as it includes objective dangers and rough terrain.
Trango Towers are far away from Gondogoro Pass, but if you have the time and the energy and want to walk another way out, this is a beautiful alternative to walking back via Askole.
Trango Towers is located in an area where the authorities usually don't ask you to put down this bond, but I've heard the severity of the climb makes the officialdom asking for it anyway.

It wasn't until 1975 that the area opened for climbing after being closed for many years and Nameless Tower was ascended for the first time by a strong British team on their second attempt in 1976.
Great Trango Tower's main summit (6286 m) was first climbed in 1977 by Galen Rowell, John Roskelly, Kim Schmitz, and Dennis Hennek by the easiest route up the western side.
The summits of Great Trango and Nameless are over 20,000 feet, so Acute Mountain Sickness (altitude sickness) is definitely to be considered, although the pace of a wall route, where climbers are usually averaging less than 500 feet of altitude gain per day, acclimatization is given time.

Another team of four young Slovenian climbers is still in Pakistan, but Andrej Grmovsek reports they have had their own successes, with an ascent of the Slovenian Route on Nameless Tower (two of them free climbing) and ascents of Great Trango Tower, Little Trango Tower, and Trango Monk.
