Tranmere Rovers went one better in the 1990-91 season, finishing fifth in the league but winning the Third Division playoffs with a dramatic 1-0 win over local rivals Bolton Wanderers.
Tranmere had hopes of a quick return to division one, but it was not to be.
Tranmere were battling relegation when Little took over, but he transformed their fortunes on the pitch and they finished eighth at the end of the 2003-04 season as well as reaching the F.A. Cup Quarter Final.

Tranmere still had a chance to win the penalty shoot out when at five all Graham Allen had the chance to tie the game up, unfortunately his shot went down the middle of the goal and was saved by the keepers legs.

Tranmere, with tremendous support from their travelling fans were a credit to both themselves and their division but the class of Spurs allowed us to win comfortably once we got ahead early in the match.
Tranmere still looked the more cohesive unit, but Spurs had loads of chances during the first half and it was Poyet’s turn next when he teed himself up for a 30-yard volley, which the keeper made a simple save look laboured.

Given the crowd attendances at Tranmere I'm not sure this is particularly necessary, but fortunately I knew of a car park near the stadium; I was quite early so I was the first to park up there for the evening's match.
The Tranmere fans on there were making a good volume of noise both before kick off and during the game, although their song list seemed restricted to just the one chant, "Super White Army".
The low crowd of just 5,000 was hardly a surprise, however, when you consider that Tranmere were charging £15 for the tie, a Worthington Cup 2nd round match, with no concessions whatsoever available to away fans wishing to pay on the turnstiles.
