It will appeal to 311 fans who liked Transistor or enjoy the lighter side of 311 found on songs like "Nix Hex" and "All Mixed Up." However, it is doubtful that people who liked the harder-edged 311 found on Music, Grassroots or 311 would find Sound-system enjoyable at all.
This album is nothing more than a complete rehash of different parts of old 311 albums, with some beats and lyrics changed to protect the innocent.
Its fourth album, Transistor, was mediocre at best, and its live album was quite possibly one of the worst albums ever recorded.

After the success of the "311" album (which is now triple Platinum), 311 released a long form home video called "Enlarged to Show Detail" containing live concert footage, interviews, videos, backstage footage, etc. To make it a unique item, 311 bundled the video with a 5 song EP containing outtakes from the "311" cd.
Unwritten Law gained mainstream acceptance in 2002, with the release of their album Elva, featuring the hit single "Seein' Red." Elva sat at number one on the modern rock chart for six weeks, exponentially increasing the band's fan base.
The new album "Don't Tread On Me" will be released on August 16, 2005.

Its successor, Transistor, was a flawed effort the length of a double album, and its studio follow-up, Soundsystem-- a 1999 album that followed a live 1998 record -- has its own aspirations.
311 have been called a lot of things -- primarily some variation of either funk metal, rap-metal, or ska-metal -- but they don't fit neatly into any of these particular subgenres.

This album is not as drastic a departure as Transistor was, or rap heavy like 311(eponymous) was.
This is definitely my favorite 311 album since Music, and is worlds better than the albums between.
In fact, depending on whom I was talking to, I might recommend this one as a first 311 album.

Alot of ppl think transistor went to soft and 311 should of stayed with the more rock sound but they are morons.
On TRANSISTOR, 311 remains true to their basic musical premise; straightforward hard rock spliced together with hip-hop, funk, and dub influences.
If you like 311 and don't have this album, you're pretty behind.

My favorite 311 songs are "Tribute" (Live album version), "Applied Science" (Live album version), "Homebrew", "Offbeat-Bareass", "TandP Combo", "Hydroponic", "Sweet", "Let the cards fall", and "Use of time", although I love every 311 song, album, and member.
My favorite albums are "Transistor", "ESTD EP", "Live", and "Music" although with out a doubt I love all of their albums.
There is also a 311 tribute album, "Standing on the shoulders of giants- a 311 tribute" which is composed of 24 311 songs covered by other bands.
