		Our group is made up of transmen and non-transmen (both community members and service providers) living and working in Ontario, Canada.
		We are dedicated to raising awareness about the sexual health of transmen and sharing knowledge around our complex bodies, sexualities and sex lives.
		This is the first sexual health resource written by and for gay, bi and queer transmen.

	Transmen - T-Vox
		Transmen or trans men are transgender or transsexual people who were assigned female gender at birth (or, in cases of intersexuality, later) and who feel that this is not an accurate or complete description of themselves.
		Transmen can come from the whole of the female-to-male side of the transgender spectrum, from female-to-male transsexual persons to drag kings (female cross-dressers or transvestites are rarely used designations) who consider themselves Transgender.
		Some have extrapolated data observing that approximately one third prefer male partners and identify as gay, one third prefer female partners and usually identify as straight, and the last third either identify as bisexual, pan- or omnisexual, undecided, or asexual.

		All lesbians do not struggle with this and at times transmen continue to live in lesbian communities because that is where they feel most welcomed.

	People
		We may never know how long and hard someone worked to save the money to get surgery, how many complications they endured, how hard they have struggled to come to terms with the results of their decisions, or conversely, how pleased they are with them.
		Derided by some as not masculine enough, for many transmen it is an acceptable alternative because it does not leave scars on other parts of the body, and because of the promise of erotic sensation.
		Not all transmen are good candidates for this procedure because acceptable results require a significant amount of testosterone-induced growth in the clitoris (usually discernable after about one year of testosterone treatment).

		And I've been wondering if transmen are conscious of being part of a transmasculine culture that is significantly different from conventional male culture.
		The only person I have ever heard speak of "transmasculinity" was a peer-counselor at the Gender Identity Project in NYC (she was a gender queer like myself, not a transman).
		I haven't gotten the impression from the transmale community that they are consciously striving to develop a transmale culture that is distinctly different from conventional male culture, although some individual transmen seem to imply it.

		Because most people were socialized as either a man or a woman and remain in the same sex their entire lives, it is difficult to tease out the different factors with empirical research.
		That transmen who fall outside of the norms of hegemonic masculinity receive fewer benefits from becoming men highlights the complex interplay between hegemonic and subordinate masculinities, and shows that advantage in the workplace is not equally accessible for all men.
		I conclude that the experiences of transmen make visible how gender inequality is created in informal workplace interactions that, in turn, produce and reproduce structural disadvantage for women and men with “marginalized” masculinities.

		First and foremost, there is the misunderstanding that transmen are just butch lesbians who transitioned because they couldn't deal with their oppression--as though it's so much easier to be transsexual in this society!
		And not all transmen were identifiably masculine before their transitions.
		Transmen, like men as a whole, represent a spectrum of gender expressions.

	People
		For some transmen this poses no problem, either physical or psychological.
		But some transmen have a strong desire to be rid of all vestiges of female parts for psychological reasons.
		Others will find that the female internal organs may become a source of severe medical problems and their removal a medical necessity.

	Tarheel Transmen
		The TGA is an open group for all transgendered people but I have realized over time that there is a definite need for a guys group also.
		There was previously no means of support specifically geared towards transmen in NC.
		With time and a lot of elbow grease, I am happy to say I've been able to change that!

		Shoes (plus socks and underwear): If you're a tall transman, your biggest worry is getting shoes that fit your growing feet (your feet have a tendency to grow once you're on testosterone, and it's not unlikely that you could go up a half size.
		For some short guys, transmen and biomen alike, their vertically challenged bodies are a source of frustration and low self-esteem, and they'll do anything short of a Bobby Brady stunt to appear taller (The Artist Formally Known as Net Unfriendly wears huge heels to add to his 5' 4" stature).
		The way I look at it, you can either do one of two things: get over the dang hangup because you've got bigger (no pun intended) things to worry about, or do something and find a way to soothe yourself by actively modifying your height through your shoes.
