Which is, of course, complete bullshit, given that not everyone chooses - or can afford or access - the same treatment.
Some more information that I think is pretty important related to the Post’s attacks on Lopez in their editorial, painting her as a “sociopath” due to her criminal record.

The CPS : Policy for Prosecuting Cases with a Homophobic Element – Introductory Leaflet
We regard homophobic and transphobic crimes as particularly serious because they are motivated by prejudice, discrimination and hate, and undermine people’s right to feel safe in their sexual orientation and gender.
Our definition of homophobic or transphobic incidents includes those affected by such incidents because they are thought to be a member of the LGBT communities (whether or not that is correct) and those who defend, support, or protect members of the LGBT communities.
If a case involving a homophobic or transphobic element passes the evidential test and the victim is willing to give evidence, we will almost always prosecute because we regard the homophobic or transphobic element as a serious aggravating feature.

The Bailey Affair: Psychology Perverted: A Response
As a social psychologist (PH), a consultant counselling psychologist (PL) a social psychologist (MB)) and a chartered counselling psychologist (LM), we are challenged and heartened by Joan Roughgarden's call for psychologists to condemn transphobic and otherwise bigoted research.
Like Roughgarden we were troubled upon reading Bailey's book for its explicit transphobic assumptions that trans adults are a negative outcome of development and for the heterosexism, sexism and racism which Roughgarden describes so well.
In fact we are surprised that she describes Bailey's research as 'surprising' as he has been involved in research on childhood 'gender non-conformity' for some time (e.g., Bailey and Zucker, 1996).

Organisation Intersex International - USA: Handbook for Parents is transphobic and homophobic
The Consortium for the Management of Disorders of Sex Development in Children has published a handbook specifically for parents of children born intersexed or as the Consortium prefers to call them – disordered in their sex development.
What started out as a disorder of the child’s sex has become a disorder of the child’s gender and the doctors are still totally correct at all points of the treatment protocols and the child is always wrong and suffering from a disorder.
Another interesting transphobic detail, other than constantly asserting that intersex children almost never reject their sex assignment, is expressed when we read that in very rare cases the child may grow up and seek a sex change along with surgical and hormone treatments.

Her thesis rests entirely on arguments that sex/gender indentity are fixed within the genitals at birth, an essentialist theory that excludes the possibility of transsexuals being a form of intersex, a topic which Raymond never addresses.
It had a further impact on private health insurance which followed the federal government’s lead in disallowing services to transsexual patients for any treatment remotely related to being transsexual, including breast cancer or genital cancer, as that was deemed to be a consequence of treatment for transsexuality.
