Director of the Institute of Surgery and transplantology AMS of Ukraine is honored worker of science and engineering of Ukraine, corresponding member of NAS and AMS of Ukraine, winner of the State premium USSR, doctor of medical sciences, professor Valeriy Saenko.
Institute of surgery and Transplantology of AMS of Ukraine was created in the 30Th of May, 1972.
In 2000 according to decision of the Presidium AMS of Ukraine the Institute of Clinical and Experimental Surgery was reorganized into the Institute of Surgery and Transplantology that has permitted to expand the range of its scientific and practical activity.

Since 1962, he directed a Laboratory of Transplantology affiliated with the Department of Pathological Anatomy, and later with the Department of Biology.
Czaplicki discovered several previously unknown biological effects of embryonal and fetal thymus extracts, and he was a pioneer of the therapeutical applications of thymic preparations, among others in transplantology, severe burns, cerebral palsy, and Down’s syndrome.
Czaplicki was the initiator of this Conference, now dedicated to his memory, and took part in the works of the Scientific Committee until his premature death on January 8, 1997.

 Russia to allow transplants again amid scandal
A police tip-off had led to the arrest of a team of doctors who were accused of planning to illegally remove organs from a comatose car crash victim at Hospital No. 20 in Moscow last month.
The arrests led to a suspension of all transplants across the country, but that ban is now being lifted, said Dr. Valery Shumakov, head of Moscow's Research Institute of Transplantology and Artificial Human Organs.
The Research Institute of Transplantology and Artificial Human Organs, which performed 150 of the 500 kidney transplants carried out in Russia last year, said none of its workers were under investigation.

A tomographic device, including this laser, was built to analyze the reflected light pulse to obtain information about the inner biological structure and inner objects, which are of special interest for medicine.
The depth of the light penetration (up to 2-3 mm) allows one to use the obtained information in medicine to make conclusions concerning diagnoses of skin diseases, as well as applications in gastroenterology, oncology and transplantology.
To extract the necessary information special software for interactive image processing was developed, which includes: equalization procedure, histogram analysis, 2D-filtering, shadow function subtraction procedure, and detection and correction of technological artifacts in images.
