The Roswell plant was incorporated as TMC, Transportation Manufacturing Corp. The MC-8 and MC-9 produced here were badged as TMC rather than MCI, but were otherwise similar to the Pembina/Winnipeg produced vehicles.
TMC became primarily the builder of buses for Greyhound Lines while the Motor Coach Industries plant at Pembina, North Dakota, which began MC-8 production in 1973, continued to assemble buses for other operators.

In December 1986, Greyhound was split, with Greyhound Lines being sold to an investor group, and Greyhound Lines of Canada, MCI and Transportation Manufacturing Corporation remaining part of Greyhound Corporation, which was renamed Dial, Inc. in 1991.
In 1987, Greyhound Corporation bought the bus manufacturing operations of General Motors, and production of the RTS was transferred to Transportation Manufacturing Corporation.
When specified with a manual transmission, MCI offered the Eaton Corporation five-speed beginning with the MC-9 in the 1982 model year and starting with the 1989 model year, seven-speed and ten-speed Roadranger transmissions were offered as well.

Transportation Manufacturing Corporation (TMC) was a bus manufacturer based in Roswell, New Mexico.
In 1987, General Motors decided to close its bus division and sold the manufacturing rights of the Rapid Transit Series (RTS) bus to Greyhound Bus Lines for assembly by TMC.
In 1994 MCI sold the TMC plant to NovaBus, who closed it in 2003.

The vehicle identification number is divided into four parts: the World Manufacturer's Identification (WMI - three characters); the Vehicle Description Section (VDS - five characters); the check digit; and the Vehicle Identification Section (VIS - eight characters).
When decoded, the VIN tells the country and year of manufacture; make, model and serial number; assembly plant and even some equipment specifications.
The following is not an exhaustive list, but I have managed to compile a listing for the manufacturers of most types of buses and service vehicles operated by many transit companies, as well as specific codes for several major manufacturers.
