The territory of Turkey extends from 36° to 42° N and from 26° to 45° E. It is roughly rectangular in shape and is 1,660 kilometers wide.

The European Union on Tuesday took a significant step towards forcing Turkey to allow Cypriot planes the use of Turkish airspace and airports, by sending a draft agreement to the Turkish Secretariat General for EU Affairs, concerning aviation services.
Besides the opening of Turkish airports and airspace to Greek Cypriot use, the agreement also aims to cancel all Turkey's bilateral air transportation agreements with other states and to instead establish a single agreement that will be binding with all EU member states.
The draft agreement also says that the opening of Turkey's airspace and ports to all EU members is an important precondition to Turkey's membership in the EU.
