Transshipment is the shipment of goods to an intermediate destination, and then from there to yet another destination.
One reason for this is so that the means of transport can be changed during the journey (eg.
Transshipment is legitimate and is fairly common, but it can also be a method used to disguise intent, as is the case with illegal logging, smuggling or grey market goods.

The development of the transshipment port in Guayanilla is the focus of government attention from different groups and angles.
Transshipment port development cost is not expected to reach $1 billion but the government’s expense is expected to only cover the cost of the land to be expropriated, according to insiders.
The transshipment cargo brought from Europe and the Far East in post-Panamax ships, too large to pass through the Panama Canal, for North and South America as well as for Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, must be reloaded to smaller ships at the transshipment port.

PUERTO RICO HERALD: Prospect Of Base Closure Raises Possibility: Roosevelt Roads As Transshipment Port?   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
By selecting Ponce as the site for the new transshipment port--discarding Guayanilla as a possible "secondary" location in the future--the current administration has settled for a less than ideal alternative, with very much limited scope and area (only about 1,000 acres), for what a true world-class transshipment port should be.
Transshipment activities, if the port is truly a megaport, are expected to create more than 20,000 direct and indirect jobs in related industries.
While the transshipment port itself will create between 500 and 1,000 direct jobs by the time it is completely developed, the bulk of the job creation (up to 20,000 new jobs) will come from these industries.

Transship or direct: a real choice?
Its ocean cargo equivalent — transshipment — is spreading on numerous trade routes, as the economics of larger containerships and asset-intensive liner networks favor limiting motherships calls to larger load-centers.
Sartini said transshipment becomes economically more efficient when the economies of scale and savings on the itinerary deviation and port expenses of the mothership more than compensate for the transshipment and feeder expenses and the additional time spent by the mothership at the hubs.
The development of container transshipment hubs is arguably one of the fastest-growing area of the container shipping industry, with the associated changes in routing patterns that this implies for shippers.

Annual rates for transshipment are expected to be higher, contributing to achieve an overall growth of 1.5 to 2.0 percent, or perhaps as much as 2.5 to 3.5 percent.
The difference in transshipment versus other growth reveals that transshipment throughput could increase to a value equal to nearly one-third of present throughput levels or 22 to nearly 25 percent of total containerized cargo tonnage throughput by the period 2010-2015.
Of this cargo allocation, approximately eighty (80) to eighty-five percent (85) of non-transshipment cargo is dispersed with a fifteen to twenty-mile radius of San Juan Harbor.

Before studying unperceived ideological transshipment, it seems useful to emphasize all the importance and timeliness of the subject from the standpoint of the most recent strategy of the communists to conquer the world.
Without perceiving it, the patient of the transshipment process, whether an individual, a group, or a large sector of opinion, changes from an attitude of resignation to a somewhat favorable attitude of expectancy.
Unperceived ideological transshipment is new above all in that it no longer plays the secondary role of a collateral tool, but has now become the tactic most used by communism for the ideological conquest of the world.

The consequences of a transshipment country gaining a reputation as a “free trade zone” for terrorists and criminal proliferators would be very serious, both to its international reputation as a reliable partner against proliferation -- and to international confidence in the security of commerce passing through that port.
In addition to protecting international security, implementation of improved transshipment controls can actually facilitate trade and increase revenue by focusing enforcement efforts on the very small fraction of trade that raises concern, while providing greater confidence and quicker clearance for the vast majority of legitimate trade.
