Transylvania University is a private liberal arts college related by covenant to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) located in Lexington, Kentucky, with approximately 1,100 students.
Due to confusion between Kentucky University and its daughter institution the University of Kentucky, the institution adopted the eldest name in its lineage "Transylvania University" in 1908.
In the spring of 1826 he was dismissed from the university, either for having an affair with the university president's wife or for attending even fewer classes than his students.

 Old Morrison, Transylvania College, Lexington, Kentucky -- National Register of Historic Places Travel Itinerary
In 1780, an act by the Commonwealth of Virginia Legislature set aside 8,000 acres of confiscated British lands in the County of Kentucky for "a public school or seminary of learning." A charter for Transylvania College was granted by the Legislature three years later, the first educational institution west of the Alleghenies.
It was one of the leading universities in the country in terms of enrollment, faculty, and resources for medical education under the presidency of Horace Holley.
During the Civil War, Transylvania was closed and Morrison College, along with other buildings on the campus, was commandeered for use as an army hospital, first by General Nelson of the Union Army and later by General Smith of the Confederate forces.

After WWI, the University of Cluj, falling within the Romanian state, was modelled on the University of Strasbourg, and instruction was given in both languages.
The new charters of the Babes-Bolyai University of 1991 and 1995, both point to the multi-cultural aspect of the University, where Hungarian, German and Romanian have all been the official the languages of instruction ever since.
