Trapezium rule - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The trapezium rule works by approximating the region under the graph of the function f(x) by a trapezium and calculating its area.
The trapezium rule is one of a family of formulas for numerical integration called Newton-Cotes formulas.
Moreover, the trapezium rule tends to become extremely accurate when periodic functions are integrated over their periods, a fact best understood in connection with the Euler-Maclaurin summation formula.

Orion Trapezium Star Cluster   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
At the core of the Orion Nebula lies the Trapezium cluster, a small group of young OB stars responsible for the bulk of the excitation of the visible nebulosity (Figure 1).
The Trapezium is the set of four optically visible stars at the core of the nebula.
This 0th-order image of the Trapezium region (which is, of course, just a renormalization of the near-infrared image) has an extend of roughly 5.5 x 5.5 arcmin and thus does not entirely fill the 8 x 8 arcmin extend of the center CCD.

 Trapezium
Trapezium is the first full-fledged child of PlayFest, the Orlando Festival of New Plays, which grew out of the play-development process the Shakespeare Festival has been shepherding for years.
He has based Trapezium (the word means a four-sided figure) on the old English tale of Tristan and Iseult, the legendary lovers who are said to have lived around the time of King Arthur.
Their story is that of a love triangle, but Trapezium turns it into a love quadrilateral, or maybe even a pentagon a love triangle with plenty of conniving from a fourth party and lots of carping from a fifth.

In 1994 and 1995 O'dell and collaborators observed the Trapezium cluster with the Hubble Space Telescope's Wide-Field and Planetary Camera 2 (WFPC-2) and discovered a new class of objects -- young proto-stars enshrouded in their disk-like birth cocoons seen in silhouette against the back-light of the nebula (STScI-PRC95-45).
The NICMOS Trapezium images reveal a population of about 50 young brown dwarfs, to the sensitivity limits of the data of about 10 Jupiters (assuming the average age of the cluster).
The rich star-forming region of the Trapezium cluster in the Orion Nebula was imaged with the Near Infrared Camera and Multiobject Spectrometer (NICMOS) on January 12, 1998.

The greatest advantage of a trapezium mount is that the object doesn't dissapear out of the field of view when the binocs are raised or lowered.
To build the vertical parts of the trapezium, the 50 mm bars are glued and bolted exactly in the middle of the vertical bars, as illustrated in this photo.
This is necessary for the trapezium to be able to move from lowest to highest position, without the horizontal bars toughing the 50 mm bars.
