Traveller (role-playing game) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The second edition of the game, titled Megatraveller, was published in 1986 and attempted to collect and collate the various rules of the system and offer new political twists in the Third Imperium, such as the assassination of the emperor and the rebellion which followed.
The last GDW produced version of Traveller was the third, Traveller: The New Era, which broke completely with the previous rules system and presented a setting in which interstellar civilization had been completely destroyed by the rebellion.
Interstellar travel is facilitated, and limited, by the use of a technology known as the jump drive.

IMAGinES RPGs: What is a Roleplaying Game?
During each roleplaying session, often referred to as an adventure or scenario, the game master sets the team of player characters an obstacle of some sort to overcome, be it a quest for a fabled magic item, a villain of the piece to be beaten, or a contract to be fulfilled.
Although a single game session usually does have an objective to accomplish, and players receive rewards in terms of increased experience (and sometimes new equipment) for their characters, there is no real way to "win" in roleplaying.
During an actual roleplaying game session, I don't have a book to read; I have several friends who are also creating the game world inside their heads, who are seeing pictures and vistas of their own, who have their own alter-egos interacting with their view of the world.

GURPS Traveller is an alternate universe where the assassination never happened, and moves the timeline a few years forward from the Classic Traveller era - it's basically just the CT universe adapted to GURPS, presented in much more detail with a more modern ruleset.
Traveller d20 is a d20 conversion of Traveller published by QLI, set about 100 years before the CT timeline with a more cinematic feel than the other versions.

You may also have felt that while the game was flexible enough that you didn't just have to play teenage vampire slayers in high school, the edgy urban feel of Buffy's exceptional spin-off series, Angel, wasn't quite there.
Since I was able to get some friends together for a session of the game and squeezed some feedback out of them (some of whom had never seen an episode of the show before), I'll also note how some of the contents shaped up in actual play, too.
Because no game based on a licensed property is complete without a short tour guide of the property's locations and set-pieces, this chapter gives capsule summaries of some of Los Angeles' hot spots as seen on the show.

The worst game I've ever played, however, is one that I might get shot for mentioning, because it is beloved by many; but it has something to do with clans and generations and 10-sided dice, and I possibly would have had a better experience with a better GM.
The game if you try to play it is a pile of crap, but it is laugh out loud funny if read as a parody of roleplaying games, which it is. Heck you couldn't even create a character until they came out with the second book.

Edgar Governo, Historian of Things That Never Were
Games, in whatever medium they are played, present a unique problem for historians of things that never were, since the outcome of any given history is often dependent on the player(s) of the game in question.
The universe that a game or series of games takes place in, however, still needs to be set out for these players, in much the same way as it is outlined in other media, and the histories presented in such games are just as worthy of pseudohistorical study as those provided elsewhere on this site.
The historical setting of the Ultima series of computer games is outlined by Robert S. Gregg, who has compiled a Chronology of Britannia, actually covering events which took place in both Britannia and Sosaria.
