SARMAN Retreading Group - About Tire - Tread Wear Patterns   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-28)
The outer portions of the tread are carrying most of the load because the tire is underinflated for the load.
The cause of this condition is tread element movement laterally, but it is not seen as a major problem since the tread on the tire is wearing so slowly and the accumulated mileage on the tread will be so great.
A portion of the tread is separated from the casing at the buff line in the area of the unrepaired puncture.

Trail Construction and Maintenance Notebook, 0023-2839-MTDC, Tread
An outsloped tread is one that is lower on the outside or downhill side of the trail than it is on the inside or bank side.
The tread can be so soft that packstock may punch completely through the tread (called a step-through) or bicycles or dirt bikes may collapse the edge.
Berms are a natural consequence of tread surface erosion and redeposition, and of inadequate compaction during construction.
