 Weekend Standard - Treading water
The government also dropped demands that the water supplied by Guangdong meet national standards adopted by Beijing in 1988, that a monitoring system be put in place and that penalties be put in train for supplying substandard water.
Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works Sarah Liao said in 2002 that the polluted stretch of the river was extending upstream so fast that she expected the usable supply to the SAR to run short within 10 years unless the trend is checked.
Given the lack of lakes or underground water in the territory, Hong Kong officials have considered expanding the SAR's reservoir system by extending the area from which rainwater is gathered, but preliminary studies showed the cost would exceed that of desalination or water recycling.

 Treading Water
Story Line: In "Treading Water," Casey (Angie Redman), a longshore worker, lives on a boat with her partner, Alex (Nina Landey).
Consequently, the drama of "Treading Water" is in experiencing the discomfort between family members, lovers, and friends.
It is essential that a movie dealing with these concerns have the kind of emotional connection between artist, character, and audience that "Treading Water" lacks.

AfterEllen.com - Review of Treading Water
As it is, Treading Water is still one of the best lesbian-themed indie films in years.
The 2001 film (co-written and directed by Lauren Himmel) begins promisingly as it unfolds the story about a young woman named Casey (played by Angie Redman) and her struggle to deal with her mother's unwillingness to accept her lover Alex (played by Nina Landey).
This is where the movie is at its best--in recreating the subtext and silence that hangs thickly in the air in so many white, upper-middle-class American homes, particularly around (but not confined to) issues of lesbianism.

Landey acknowledges that unlike Redman (who is not gay), she was initially a little concerned about being typecast by playing such an explicitly lesbian role so early in her career.
Treading Water is Landey's first (and so far only) feature film role.
She doesn't appear to have any other film roles in the works, but now that Treading Water is on DVD and accessible to more people, perhaps Landey's visibility will increase in Hollywood.
