Treasure Island - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Treasure Island is a novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, first published in one volume in 1883, though it had previously been serialised in a children's magazine; the original title was The Sea Cook or Treasure Island.
Once on the island, Silver betrays his employers, but his plans to desert them are foiled and the treasure is found.
As a result of the book's popularity, the term "Treasure Island" has passed into the language as a common phrase, and is often used as a title for games, amusement arcades, places, etc.

 Treasure Hunter's Manual #6
Professional treasure hunters follow many leads which are picked up in a great variety of places; a magazine or newspaper, comments overheard in the barbershop, a bit of news over the radio, a paragraph from a book, neighborhood gossip, or even a portion of a personel letter received from somebody.
Professional treasure hunters usually research several different treasure caches simultaneously, and it is not at all unusual for a professional to have more than one cache pretty accurately located at one time.
treasure hunter, much of the satisfaction and fun from treasure hunting is derived from attempting to fathom the history and background of a given treasure.

During the fifteen years he was Editorial Director of the magazine he blessed it with a regular editorial, personal replies in the letters column, and a fine assortment of his own fiction.

EN World - Morrus' D&D / d20 News & Reviews Site - Dragon - Is Dragon Magazine even *Relevant* anymore?
One article in particular I'm thinking about is one from a magazine (issue #81, IIRC) with a description of the gems that are typically found in treasure piles, and some smattering of possible uses.
If 80% of your magazine is built solely around providing new rules for stuff people need only sparingly (new races and classes come to mind), you're giving the people who aren't looking for that material every month lots of reasons to stop reading the magazine.
Although I'm happy to contribute to the magazine and will gladly produce core rules-only material - heck, it's fewer books I need to buy to write for the magazine -, I'm at a loss to understand how this is the right direction.
