It seemed that Peter Smith, the Ontario Treasurer, had given a close friend of his, Andrew Pepall, lucrative payments to travel to London to secure better financing for Ontario's debt.

The citizens of the village of Rochester were agitating the subject of dividing Ontario County, and a county meeting of the tax-payers who were opposed to the division was held at the court-house on November 6, 1817, at which time Hon.
A meeting was called of the supervisors and county treasurers of Ontario, Monroe, and Genesee, to meet at Avon on the first Monday in June, 1821, to apportion all moneys in their hands justly and equitably.
By act of April 9, 1792, the supervisors in the several towns of Ontario were directed to raise and levy the sum of six hundred pounds for building a court-house, with the addition of one shilling on the pound for collection.

We reviewed a document entitled Renewing Ontario: A Plan for the Economy, produced by the Treasurer of Ontario, and in that document he indicated that Ontarians want good jobs that pay well, that are cost-competitive businesses that attract investment and that we're able to compete with the best in the world.
Ontario is much further ahead now than it was a couple of years ago, because originally we had a 15% tax we had to pay; we've reduced that now to less than 6%, and once this binational committee is through, we're hoping we'll be able to reduce it to zero.
Ontario has lost about a third of its track in the last 20 years, a trend which is contrary to the direction we need to follow.
