Throughout April 1755, 700 British and American soldiers fighting in the French and Indian War (Seven Years' War) trekked through what is now Loudoun County toward Fort Duquesne, Pa., on a mission to drive the French and allied Indians from their forts in the Ohio Valley and on the Great Lakes.
In June 1755, Halkett's Virginia troops, officially the 44th Grenadiers or Regiment of Foot, joined a second force of about 700 that had marched west through Maryland under command of Col. Thomas Dunbar.
At Midday June 26, 1755, General Braddock's scouts and guides working in advance of the main column, happened upon a site that was occupied the night before by 150 to 200 French and Indians.

He went on to say that the government's policy is to 'deal first with the immediate threats to the (Antarctic) environment, and at the same time to seek a consensus among the treaty parties on a way to deal with the minerals issue'.
It was just such a consensus system of decision making in the Antarctic Treaty over the past 30 years that has led to Antarctica being the most environmentally protected continent in the world.
It is important to wait and make every effort to reach a consensus rather than rush and force treaty members into a decision they are not happy with.
