Another thing is when flushed Meadow Pipits fly from the ground and over to another patch of ground, they do occasionally go to a tree but this one seemed stuck to the tree whenever it did something.
Another thing is the pine trees were a fari way off and I have always seen my Tree Pipits coming down to a Pine tree apart from in the Scillies.
Tree Pipit's song is far more elaborate then Meadow's and they usually include a 'Seeya-seeya-seeya' phrase which is very distinctive.

It was a while before I saw the singer, but it was an Anthus pipit sitting at the top of the tallest birch trees in the plantation c.
It sounds like ideal T.Pipit country to me, the display is seen in both forms of pipit, although perching atop a tree is more indicative of tree pipit (hence the name) the two songs can be very similar but I think MP gets quicker as it sings, so it was probably a tree pipit.
As for Tripits breeding - the ideal habitat is once the first rotation of trees is felled, or patches of windblown timber - that is classic Tripit breeding habitat, mainly from 1 to 5-10 years (depending on the growth rate of the new crop) after felling/blowing.

The best way to separate them from the other pipits is by their different songs and calls but a silent bird could be tricky.
The breast and throat is a rich buff contrasting with the white belly and undertail.

Tree Pipit is locally considerably less common than Meadow Pipit.
A summer visitor, it can be seen breeding in small numbers, mostly in the western half of the recording area in a variety of habitats such as: wooded margins, open valleys with scattered trees, heathland and young coniferous plantations.
In fact most areas with at least a scattering of trees are worth a look.

10 Tree Pipits were scattered around the middle of the isle, a Grasshopper Warbler was in Field Ditch and a Swift was a year-tick in North Haven.
The Richard’s Pipit and Ortolans remain whilst 8 Bluethroat, 6 Sedge Warblers, 9 Willow Warblers, 5 Red-backed Shrikes, 4 Tree Sparrows and 4 Mealy Redpolls were all left behind.
Highlights included a Richard’s Pipit at Quoy (thought at first to be a Tawny on call, until it settled down for views), 12 Bluethroats, 6 Red-backed Shrikes and 5 Tree Sparrows at the Obs.

Census produced a Common Sandpiper, 2 Tree Pipits, Yellow Wagtail, the Nightingale, 100 Wheatears, 3 Redwings, Sedge Warbler, female Blackcap, 4 Willow Warblers, Spotted Flycatcher, the female Pied Flycatcher, 3 Tree Sparrows and a different Crossbill.
A Wryneck was at Midway, a female Red-backed Shrike (year-tick) was at Field and a Tree Sparrow was at the Obs.
Otherwise, an intermedius Lesser Black-backed Gull was in the south, an Arctic Tern flew past South Light and census produced 9 Swallows, 8 Tree Pipits, 13 Redstarts, 2 Sedge Warblers, a Whitethroat, 7 Willow Warblers, 3 Bramblings and a Lapland Bunting.

Richards Pipit: 1 poss 2 birds SE of Mereclough, in rough pasture either side of the road known as the 'Long Causeway' at cSD890290, nr Shedden Clough (AH).
They are feeding in various rowan trees in the garden behind the cottage and can be viewed from the public footpath that goes between the cottage and the Spread Eagle Public House (AW).
Three further checks of the trees up to 11.30hrs were made, with no further sign, but this area produced Waxwing earlier in year so there may be a food source out of view and the birds may have been perched in between feeding sorties (LP).
