The Kingdom of Denmark (Danish: Kongeriget Danmark) is geographically the smallest and southernmost Nordic country, and is part of the European Union.
Denmark borders the Baltic Sea and the North Sea, and consists of a peninsula attached to Northern Germany named Jutland (Jylland), the islands Funen (Fyn), Zealand (Sjælland), Bornholm and many smaller islands, the waters of which are often referred to as the Danish Archipelago.
In 1849 Denmark became a constitutional monarchy with the adoption of a new constitution.

Washington State University plant pathologist Gary Chastagner and geneticist Ulrik Nielsen, at the Forest and Landscape Research Institute, in Denmark, are working on Christmas trees that won't dry up and shed their needles.
The researchers have found that some clones of the Nordmann fir, which is commonly grown for Christmas trees, have better water retention after harvest than the original fir.
The seed from these superior trees in Denmark was harvested and imported for Pacific Northwest growers.

Nielsen, a researcher at the Forest and Landscape Research Institute in Denmark, and Chastagner are working on several projects to find Christmas trees with superior moisture retention through a WSU/Danish cooperative project supported by the USDA/Danish Christmas Tree Grower Association.
Through the project, the researchers have found that some clones of the Nordmann fir, which is commonly grown for Christmas trees, have better water retention after harvest than the original fir.
It was also found that noble and Fraser firs were the only species that consistently did not have needle shedding and discoloration when displayed dry, and displaying them in water was an effective way to maintain moisture retention at a minimum of three to four weeks.

Collage 200 H u m o u r N e t 22 DEC 95 Poul in Denmark (the Kingdom of) mentioned that some of the holiday material I've been using this season does not have much of a "worldwide" appeal.
The Danes have this pervasive problem of waking up on December 25th to find an unusual amount of wind and sun filling the charred remains of what used to be the house.
If that were the case over here, people would be lighting their Christmas trees with flamethrowers.
